Game of the Month #16 (January 2025): Iridion II (PC)

>What is this? This is exactly how it sounds: A game is chosen each month (which will be relatively or totally obscure on purpose) with hopes of bringing new avenues of playing potential to anons with narrow video game perspectives. The goal isn't necessarily to pick bad games, but obscure ones nobody, or as few people as possible, have played. You can play the game and then use that fact as bragging rights to others! You can use it to broaden your backlog horizons! or you can forget about it. It's up to you. THIS MONTH: Iridion II (PC) >Where do I get this? 7E2A1BD9 GUIDELINES FOR FUTURE GotMs: Poll for February 2025: https://poal.me/a35q30 If you do not like any of the games in the poll, you can either add a new entry manually, or reply to the OP with a different suggestion. Don't come crying to me if you don't like the game, blame democracy. If you DO suggest a game though, please, report all relevant information on the game (magnet/dl link, interesting mods, guides, tutorials on tech, speedrun etc.). Feel free to suggest any and every game you can think of, bonus points if it's games that barely anyone has played or talks about in the [Current Year] or that fit the month thematically. However, try and follow these rules: 1) No game that relies on modern hardware. If the game cannot be pirated or emulated properly, or no working emulator for the game exists, most people won't be able to enjoy it, rendering the thread kind of pointless; 2) No always-online games, meaning no live service games or mobile games that are dependent on external servers, unless a backup instance of said servers has been created by its fans or the offline content is significantly larger than the online content; 3) For multiplayer games, provide only free to play games that let players create their own servers, or games with local multiplayer that can be set up to play online (requires someone to be a hostfag, or, and may Allah forgive me for uttering these words, using Parsec); 4) No game that requires gimmicky controls to be enjoyable (guitar pedals, Wiimotes, cameras etc.) unless they can be easily remapped or translated into some other control scheme. Switch 2 announced today

Edit: It was announced. More details on April 2nd https://youtu.be/itpcsQQvgAQ?si=cOMpOEsP1qTLkzO- Basically everybody who's anybody in the game leaking scene says today Nintendo plans to shadowdrop a Switch 2 reveal, the 16th has been a consistent date thrown around for a little while now. No games, no software, just a console reveal. This is following huge Switch 2 leaks, up to and including actual photos of the console. It's not anything interesting, it looks like a bigger Switch with the words "Nintendo Switch 2" on the back. This is a heavily cropped photo of an actual unit somebody has, they've posted better ones since but I don't want to go digging for them.

Kingdom "Pozzload of" Come: Deliver(a shitty product)ance 2: Electric Boogaloo: Drama Edition

Hark, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 releases in just a few more days Now, hold your excitement, because there has been some drama in the past few days which have incited speculation about the content of the game and not all of it is unjustified speculation. I'll be including all known information about this situation in this thread, feel free to contribute anything you can find to help out. <Where to start A few days ago, there were several reports that the country of Saudi Arabia has banned - or at least, hasn't yet cleared - the release of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, with the alleged reason being that there are "unskippable gay scenes in story mode" https://archive.ph/243kc https://x.com/VGA4A/status/1879150290680893691 <Okay so this is just speculation based off of a precarious tweet from someone that isn't directly working with the Saudi government/licensing board? Well, not quite. See, there is more to worry about. There are also leaks coming from /v/ on 4chan from someone who received an early copy and found something surprising in the game. Well, that just so happened to be an African dude. Now the history buffs among us might already consider this a little sus on its own, but for the rest of you out there, you might be interested to know that the inclusion of a black is very interesting indeed given the previous statements by the lead developer of Warhorse Studios - Daniel Vavra - the creator of Kingdom Come, having commented in the past saying "There were no black people in medieval Bohemia. Period." That original tweet was from 2015 shortly before KCD1 released and received quite a lot of controversy, that time from the left side. Alright, so you may be asking yourself, why worry about rumors when Daniel Vavra himself is an avid twitter user and surely wasn't afraid in the past to set things straight. So concerned fans took to twitter to ask him, but Daniel Vavra was strangely....reluctant to clarify anything...

Onirism is no longer indie

Crimson Tales has struck a marketing deal with a recently created publisher named Shoreline Games, made by people who recently worked on vidya like Space Marine II or Subnautica's marketing. CT keeps full control of the dev while SG makes sure the game is marketed properly. Also, the Onirism page in Shoreline Game's website claims the games is set to get its 1.0 release in Q3 2025, but knowing the game's many setbacks and what's left to do, they might not meet the deadline. https://archive.is/7ksT7 Also, here's Blueberry's father, King Strawberry.

NIHON FALCOM THREAD: Forward Relentlessly Edition

I was hoping to make it to the shareholders meeting before the old thread got bumped off but it looks like we'll miss it by a couple of weeks. >Latest News -Falcom's 2024 title is all but confirmed to be Kuro No Kiseki 3. We don't have a title or any details yet, though, and likely won't until the shareholder's meeting in December. -Ys X released on Playstation systems and Switch. As of now, no PC announcement has been made. CLE likely will make one going by their track record, but who's to say when. Durante and his team will eventually make one too, as the norm is now for them to release the Japanese PC version and patch in the localization later. Either way, we likely won't see fan translation efforts until a PC version materializes. Thankfully, the Switch version will at least mean easy access to the Japanese script, which was a major problem when trying to translate Kuro 2. Speaking of... -Kuro no Kiseki 2 has had it's main and sub scenarios translated. That is to say, main quest, side quests, events noted on the map and connect events. Most NPCs are still machine translated. This is following Kuro no Kiseki 1 which was completely translated down to the last NPC. This was all done before NISA even officially announced their Kuro localization. As long as they remain three years behind, this should stay the norm. >Fan-translations Kuro no Kiseki 1 Translation: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1nN-39bcBkES4Wg-3-rGlRqTARuQhGybB?usp=sharing Kuro no Kiseki 2 Translation: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/120XMXZinIOWUvzyFZj4bZRYBSoZGMChO?usp=drive_link Hajimari no Kiseki Translation (NPCs incomplete. Graphical Stagnation and Regression

<aka "they're gonna take you to the present, where your screen is fucking unpleasant" the thread >aka grafix discussion bread So I don't think it's much of a secret these days that despite <TAA, with ghosting and trailing <mandatory upscaling <framegen <raytracing and pathtracing more and more games are shipping out in worse technical states asking for more power while less is delivered. There are a myriad of reasons for this state of affairs but TL;DR something systemic is definitely going on and it's led to ripple effects like gamers buying more PC indie titles, reevaluation of the eighth generation, backlash against Unreal Engine, and the Threat Interactive drama. "buy new GPU" is no longer a valid dismissal since Nvidia's poor showing at CES, with barely an uptick in compute and the push for 75% fake frames and neural texture compression. Discuss this hot mess.

The Video Game Industry is imploding

I wanted to make a thread for this since it seems every day there's either a massive amount of industry layoffs or some publisher splitting off. Most recently Toys for Bob and Saber Interactive have split from their previous holders with rumors of Gearbox being sold off or going private after splitting off from Embracer like Saber just did. Additionally 505 have just shut down a bunch of offices in Spain, Germany, and France. Since just last holiday there have been over 15,000+ layoffs in the video games industry with a lot of companies restructuring like Embracer and Sony after deals with the Saudi's and the Chinese have basically gone sour. This is in addition to games like Spider-Man 2 (2023) costing over 300 million dollars and with the constant failures of live service games, it makes sense why the industry is experiencing a soft crash as it were. It remains to be seen what will come of the video games industry and what will rise from the ashes. I'm expecting to see more smaller publishers pop up while the current publishers will focus on making smaller games with tighter budgets. That being said no one really knows where the industry will go from here. sources: https://archive.ph/YI6OK https://archive.is/ZzK5C https://archive.ph/3z9RF

How should gamers fight problems with modern games?

Greentext at least one problem and find solutions to the problem. 1) Bland "brown and bloom" colors and graphics, uncreative, uninviting, and visually unstimulating, that reduce atmosphere, emotional impact, and uniqueness 2) Crunch culture where employees work long hours under intense pressure to meet deadlines and deliver products, causing burnout and decreased product quaality 3) Degradation of the hobby as gaming became international and developers adapted design to cater to broader demographics 4) Digital rights management that requires online server authentication, or negatively impacts game performance, or limits how you can use the game 5) Diversity, equity, and inclusion biasing hiring processes at the expense of skills which reduces studio performance, competence, and morale 6) Excessive DLC that fragments the gaming experience, locking content behind additional purchases instead of including it in the initial release 7) Exploiting, cheating, and hacking online like aimbots and wallhacks, offline players usually know each other which discouraged local cheating due to social consequences 8) Game-as-a-service models, subscription and cloud services for gaming where you (((own nothing and be happy))) 9) Hyper-realism instead of artistic and aesthetic style, making games look generic as they strive for similar fidelity and lose unique artistic identity 10) Input lag making games feel more unresponsive, particularly in genres like fighting games, first-person shooters, or platformers needing precise movements or combos 11) Kernel-level anticheat that violate privacy and increases the risk malicious actors exploit security vulnerabiltiies to infect gamers with malware 12) Limited physical releases where many modern games are digital-only, and companies assume digital distribution, the PS5 Pro even lacks a disc drive 13) Loading screen saturation that frequently interrupts gameplay, wastes time, and breaks immersion 14) Monetization, microtransactions, loot boxes, and gambling mechanics and how developers design games around compulsive spending of players instead of delivering quality content 15) Movie games requiring significant "Triple A" budgets and minimizing player agency by sidelining gameplay and how they interact with the game world 16) Pay-to-win mechanics that let players gain advantages by purchasing powerful items or upgrades, undermining fair competition 17) Reduced challenge to cater to broader demographics as gameplay is de-emphasized 18) Releasing games incomplete with significant bugs then patching day one or over time with frequent updates instead of quality assurance, pre-ordering games encourages this too 19) System requirements where modern games require powerful hardware, making them less accessible, or large large with long download times so customers buy storage to play 20) Woke game narratives and character designs, prioritizing diversity over game quality, lacking positive role models, and abandoning game audiences for (((modern audiences)))

DONKEY KONG

D K DONKEY KONG Which is the best Donkey kong game and why is it tropical freeze? More importantly, how come Nintendo hasn't made any DK games lately? I have pretty much given up hope of a 3d collectathon like 64 but having Retro hammer out another 2d platformer can't be too much of a hassle. Maybe just have a new studio make a whole new kind of DK game? There is a lot of things you can do with DK and his extended family.

Musou General: Dynasty Warriors Origins Special

Haven't seen much discussion or hype for this one, and that's probably warranted seeing what I've played of it thus far. One hero, seven weapons, skill trees, wandering around an overworld map, side quests, collecting crafting materials, etc. I'm new to the genre and the series, except for the excellent Hyrule Warriors (the first one, not the shitheap that was Age of Calamity), and while I do find it fun all I can see is shit that would piss off genre and series purists. As a fairly distant outsider though, I admit I'm having fun, though not heaping gobs of it. The overworld map reminds me of Heroes of Might and Magic in a way. DWO definitely could be better, but the main point is I'm absolutely lost with these fucking names. They all sound the same to me with few exceptions. I know of Lu Bu from the memes, and Cao Cao stands out because the name is pronounced Tsow Tsow which, OK, I'm familar with Welsh so I'll give that a pass, but fuck me everyone else is named Gaun Yu or Yu Guan or Lie Bu or Lei Schwang or some fucking thing. I'm lost as fuck. The music is good though, it's the kind of upbeat energetic Jrock that usually accompanies these titles and other nip action games. Kind of reminds me of Ys 8's OST a bit, heavy on the guitar and drums. The voice acting though, well, the lines are said and they're fairly clear but I guess it's hard to have passion for such stilted dialogue. I suppose it's a direct translation of the rather rigid Mandarin so I'd prefer that to some "punched up" localiser bullshit, so I'll give it a pass on that account. Overall, I'd call the "modernising" of Dynasty Warriors a success, since I'm having fun and I'm not thrown into the middle of an existing franchise in which I'd be even more lost than I already am with these yellow turban fuckers in the Puyang province. I know there's some significance to the Puyang province, wasn't the communist party born there? Or Winnie the Pooh himself? Fuck man, this is my first taste of bugman history and I'm lost. But still, the game is fun for a complete newcomer, though whether that leads to greater sales...I don't know, I don't think so. Purists will likely be driven away and I didn't even know this game was a thing until I asked my local game store if anything had come out recently and I was bored so I picked it up (yeah I "bought" it but their generous return policy means I keep jack shit and get my money back on four out of five games). According to the Playstation tracker thing I'm 16% of the way through the game and I've played probably two hours, so I'll likely be finished with the main campaign by the end of the weekend. Any genre fans interested in this game and want to weigh in? I'm curious how you'd feel about it.

Marvel Rivals Thread

Not sure if you fags saw the news, but apparently Overwatch has got its ass handed to it by the Chinese in the Hero Shooter department. If you have been living under a rock there's a new hero shooter ///game\\\ called Marvel Rivals that has been doing extremely well on Steam and the dev team even supports Linux/Steam Deck which is a huge shock considering how many devs don't bother supporting Linux on the anti-cheat side of things. It also has around 30 playable characters available for free and might be getting more modes such as a PvE mode in addition to the existing PvP modes. I played the game for a bit, while I had some fun with the game, It's not something I can really put hours into. More like a short burst here and there, although that might be because I'm getting old. That being said I like blasting people around with The Punisher even if his logo is wrong. Although to be fair to this game, mostly everyone on the roster got a massive redesign specifically for the game. Honestly, I just like having a game where I can fuck around for an hour or two without having to boot into my Windows drive. Have you guys played this game? If so what do you think about it.

Minor News Thread

Basically this is a thread for those minor news articles that are interesting but not necessary big enough to have their own thread. We will be taking the bigger stories from these threads and making them into their own threads, Anons are welcome to do the same. We will NOT be heavily enforcing these threads, so please keep that in mind. Basically things like game announcements, live stream events, new gaming hardware, etc. should have their own threads while shit like NEW GUILTY GEAR DLC 3 "SLAYER" or something like that should be posted in this thread. While we won't ban anyone for doing the former, we encourage anons to use their best judgement when posting news content.

Video games as art

It's been 12 years since Roger Ebert said video games can never be art. Was Ebert wrong? Where, below, did Ebert go wrong? What is art? Can video games be art? What video games are art? >Having once made the statement above, I have declined all opportunities to enlarge upon it or defend it. That seemed to be a fool’s errand, especially given the volume of messages I receive urging me to play this game or that and recant the error of my ways. Nevertheless, I remain convinced that in principle, video games cannot be art. Perhaps it is foolish of me to say “never,” because never, as Rick Wakeman informs us, is a long, long time. Let me just say that no video gamer now living will survive long enough to experience the medium as an art form. >What stirs me to return to the subject? I was urged by a reader, Mark Johns, to consider a video of a TED talk given at USC by Kellee Santiago, a designer and producer of video games. I did so. I warmed to Santiago immediately. She is bright, confident, persuasive. But she is mistaken. >I propose to take an unfair advantage. She spoke extemporaneously. I have the luxury of responding after consideration. If you want to follow along, I urge you to watch her talk, which is embedded below. It’s only 15 minutes long, and she makes the time pass quickly. >She begins by saying video games “already ARE art.” Yet she concedes that I was correct when I wrote, “No one in or out of the field has ever been able to cite a game worthy of comparison with the great poets, filmmakers, novelists and poets.” To which I could have added painters, composers, and so on, but my point is clear. >Then she shows a slide of a prehistoric cave painting, calling it “kind of chicken scratches on walls,” and contrasts it with Michelangelo’s ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Her point is that while video games may be closer to the chicken scratch end of the spectrum, I am foolish to assume they will not evolve. >She then says speech began as a form of warning, and writing as a form of bookkeeping, but they evolved into storytelling and song. Actually, speech probably evolved into a form of storytelling and song long before writing was developed. And cave paintings were a form of storytelling, perhaps of religion, and certainly of the creation of beauty from those chicken-scratches Werner Herzog is even now filming in 3-D. >Herzog believes, in fact, that the paintings on the wall of the Cave of Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc in Southern France should only be looked at in the context of the shadows cast on those dark walls by the fires built behind the artists, which suggests the cave paintings, their materials of charcoal and ochre and all that went into them were the fruition of a long gestation, not the beginning of something–and that the artists were enormously gifted. They were great artists at that time, geniuses with nothing to build on, and were not in the process of becoming Michelangelo or anyone else. Any gifted artist will tell you how much he admires the “line” of those prehistoric drawers in the dark, and with what economy and wit they evoked the animals they lived among. >Santiago concedes that chess, football, baseball and even mah jong cannot be art, however elegant their rules. I agree. But of course that depends on the definition of art. She says the most articulate definition of art she’s found is the one in Wikipedia: “Art is the process of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions.” This is an intriguing definition, although as a chess player I might argue that my game fits the definition. >Plato, via Aristotle, believed art should be defined as the imitation of nature. Seneca and Cicero essentially agreed. Wikipedia believes “Games are distinct from work, which is usually carried out for remuneration, and from art, which is more concerned with the expression of ideas…Key components of games are goals, rules, challenge, and interaction.” >But we could play all day with definitions, and find exceptions to every one. For example, I tend to think of art as usually the creation of one artist. Yet a cathedral is the work of many, and is it not art? One could think of it as countless individual works of art unified by a common purpose. Is not a tribal dance an artwork, yet the collaboration of a community? Yes, but it reflects the work of individual choreographers. Everybody didn’t start dancing all at once. >One obvious difference between art and games is that you can win a game. It has rules, points, objectives, and an outcome. Santiago might cite a immersive game without points or rules, but I would say then it ceases to be a game and becomes a representation of a story, a novel, a play, dance, a film. Those are things you cannot win; you can only experience them. >She quotes Robert McKee’s definition of good writing as “being motivated by a desire to touch the audience.” This is not a useful definition, because a great deal of bad writing is also motivated by the same desire. I might argue that the novels of Cormac McCarthy are so motivated, and Nicholas Sparks would argue that his novels are so motivated. But when I say McCarthy is “better” than Sparks and that his novels are artworks, that is a subjective judgment, made on the basis of my taste (which I would argue is better than the taste of anyone who prefers Sparks). >Santiago now phrases this in her terms: “Art is a way of communicating ideas to an audience in a way that the audience finds engaging.” Yet what ideas are contained in Stravinsky, Picasso, “Night of the Hunter,” “Persona,” “Waiting for Godot,” “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock?” Oh, you can perform an exegesis or a paraphrase, but then you are creating your own art object from the materials at hand. >Kellee Santiago has arrived at this point lacking a convincing definition of art. But is Plato’s any better? Does art grow better the more it imitates nature? My notion is that it grows better the more it improves or alters nature through an passage through what we might call the artist’s soul, or vision. Countless artists have drawn countless nudes. They are all working from nature. Some of there paintings are masterpieces, most are very bad indeed. How do we tell the difference? We know. It is a matter, yes, of taste. >Santiago now supplies samples of a video game named “Waco Resurrection” (above), in which the player, as David Koresh, defends his Branch Davidian compound against FBI agents. The graphics show the protagonist exchanging gunfire with agents according to the rules of the game. Although the player must don a Koresh mask and inspire his followers to play, the game looks from her samples like one more brainless shooting-gallery. >“Waco Resurrection” may indeed be a great game, but as potential art it still hasn’t reached the level of chicken scratches, she defends the game not as a record of what happened at Waco, but “as how we feel happened in our culture and society.” Having seen the 1997 documentary “Waco: The Rules of Engagement,” I would in contrast award the game a Fail in this category. The documentary made an enormous appeal to my senses and emotions, although I am not proposing it as art. >Her next example is a game named “Braid” (above). This is a game “that explores our own relationship with our past…you encounter enemies and collect puzzle pieces, but there’s one key difference…you can’t die.” You can go back in time and correct your mistakes. In chess, this is known as taking back a move, and negates the whole discipline of the game. Nor am I persuaded that I can learn about my own past by taking back my mistakes in a video game. She also admires a story told between the games levels, which exhibits prose on the level of a wordy fortune cookie. >We come to Example 3, “Flower” (above). A run-down city apartment has a single flower on the sill, which leads the player into a natural landscape. The game is “about trying to find a balance between elements of urban and the natural.” Nothing she shows from this game seemed of more than decorative interest on the level of a greeting card. Is the game scored? She doesn’t say. Do you win if you’re the first to find the balance between the urban and the natural? Can you control the flower? Does the game know what the ideal balance is? >These three are just a small selection of games, she says, “that crossed that boundary into artistic expression.” IMHO, that boundary remains resolutely uncrossed. “Braid” has had a “great market impact,” she says, and “was the top-downloaded game on XBox Live Arcade.” All of these games have received “critical acclaim.” >Now she shows stills from early silent films such as George Melies’ “A Voyage to the Moon” (1902), which were “equally simplistic.” Obviously, I’m hopelessly handicapped because of my love of cinema, but Melies seems to me vastly more advanced than her three modern video games. He has limited technical resources, but superior artistry and imagination. >These days, she says, “grown-up gamers” hope for games that reach higher levels of “joy, or of ecstasy….catharsis.” These games (which she believes are already being made) “are being rewarded by audiences by high sales figures.” The only way I could experience joy or ecstasy from her games would be through profit participation. >The three games she chooses as examples do not raise my hopes for a video game that will deserve my attention long enough to play it. They are, I regret to say, pathetic. I repeat: “No one in or out of the field has ever been able to cite a game worthy of comparison with the great poets, filmmakers, novelists and poets.” >Why are gamers so intensely concerned, anyway, that games be defined as art? Bobby Fischer, Michael Jordan and Dick Butkus never said they thought their games were an art form. Nor did Shi Hua Chen, winner of the $500,000 World Series of Mah Jong in 2009. Why aren’t gamers content to play their games and simply enjoy themselves? They have my blessing, not that they care. >Do they require validation? In defending their gaming against parents, spouses, children, partners, co-workers or other critics, do they want to be able to look up from the screen and explain, “I’m studying a great form of art?” Then let them say it, if it makes them happy. >I allow Sangtiago the last word. Toward the end of her presentation, she shows a visual with six circles, which represent, I gather, the components now forming for her brave new world of video games as art. The circles are labeled: Development, Finance, Publishing, Marketing, Education, and Executive Management. I rest my case.

Asscreed Shadows delayed AGAIN

This just in, Assassin's Creed: Shadows has been delayed another two months from January 9th to March 20th. This comes directly after the report from "People Make Games" who I'm not going to link to since they're massive faggots, where one of their support studios "Brandoville" is charged with abusing Indonesia developers to make assets for the upcoming game. Not to mention the outright fuckery going on with Sweet Baby Inc and general disrespect towards Japanese culture, and you have a game that's set to crash and burn when it releases this March. This is on top of the Guillemot brothers desperately trying to retain control of the company and is trying to go private as the Tencent buyout has currently haulted according to Insider-Gaming. This is ON TOP of the failures of Star Wars, Avatar, Skull and Bones, and XDefiant with some of their failing projects far exceeding 100 million. Finally Ubisoft is likely to go private in 2025 with people within Ubisoft themselves believing that nothing will actually change if an acquisition would take place. Ubisoft is FUCKED https://archive.ph/wip/ZhFH8 https://archive.ph/wip/luh03

Post about games that you just FINISHED

I seem to be getting the strange feeling more and more that the Anons who keep posting about the games they're "playing" never actually finish those games. As in they just drop the game after a certain point and lose interest in it for whatever reason (Even if it's a great game). So, to remedy that, let's have this thread, where Anons boast about crossing off another title on the backlog. And, to guilt all the other Anons into doing the same.

Sonic the Hedgehog

With Sonic X Shadow Generations coming out in less than a week, now is a good time for a new Sonic thread. Personally I'm quite excited for the game, and am surprised it hasn't already leaked since it usually leaks around this time. Although I'm kinda disappointed we haven't seen a proper Adventure remake yet, hopefully this game will be good and will lead to good things as time goes on. Oh, and hopefully we'll get a Shadow remake that's actually good this time. I doubt SEGA has the balls to make that kinda game in the modern age though. Are you looking forward to Shadow Generations? Do you think we'll get more Sonic stages as DLC? Or will the game just be average and a waste of money and the cycle will repeat itself all over again, even though Frontiers as a modded game is solid. Still, this is the thread to discuss anything and everything Sonic the Hedgehog! please don't porn dump, I'm looking at you Bui

VIDYA NECROMANCY

Not games where you play as a necromancer, but reviving dead or dying studios. Which studio would you restore to life to get their potential unlocked? For me it would have to be Black Isle. This would give us proper sequels to Baldur's Gate 2, Fallout 2, and Dark Alliance 2, as well as everything they could have done with the Aurora engine after that.

MOUTHWASHING

Surprised no one here brought this game up, it's an interesting little indie game. It has honestly one of the worst main characters I've seen in a while, not like in a cringe way or a cartoonish way. But someone who'd exist in real life and pull this shit bad kinda way, Jimmy is a genuinely terrible human being.

Vehicle simbiosis games

I'm looking for games were you have a simbiotic relationship with a vehicle as a gaming mechanic. So not simply a lore point, both in-vehicle and the on-foot parts of the game are dictated and done by the player, not something like Front Mission Evolved where you getting out of the mecha was a cutscene and you had no agency over it nor driver 2 where getting out of the car had no use aside from some small easter eggs. I'm talking about games where both are seamless and done at the player discretion and both are interesting, expected and important to the gameplay. I know these 6 games and i love each one of them (okay, maybe not RESQ, but it still has it's place in my heart) and i also played most of the Blaster Master series too. Is there any other game like that? exploration heavy games would be even better. Things like Subnautica and Outer Wilds might apply, but they are very combat averse, so i dunno if they should.

This would mark the completion of its 9-year development and the first major TES engine port to be finished. Here's some sites and links with at least some confirmed anons that can be recruited again: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/8chotwheels https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SSAVCH https://steamcommunity.com/groups/video_games https://steamcommunity.com/groups/8chmohun https://steamcommunity.com/groups/8chan_monster https://steamcommunity.com/groups/GoodLuckEbolaChan https://steamcommunity.com/search/groups/#text=8ch.net https://steamcommunity.com/search/groups/#text=8chan Other sites that might yield fruitful results and have anons (art sites use an account so you can see 18+ content): https://www.deviantart.com/search?q=Vivian+James https://www.newgrounds.com/search/summary?suitabilities=etm&terms=Vivian%20James https://twitter.com/search?q=Vivian%20James&src=typed_query&f=image https://rpgcodex.net/ https://old.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/ Somewhere on Telegram Just searching up GG or 8chan-related terms on certain places/sites can get you possible results. 3. Make your own OC/Memes/Content Doesn't matter what it is even if its just simple edits or full-on drawings or webms, just make it and have fun. Ask in thread for software recs if necessary. 4. Encourage or create fun events, activities, projects, etc. Think things like 8chanmania, weekly streams, re-translation projects, demo days, or zzz's gaming magazine for example. If you want to do something, try making or reviving it, it can't hurt and these things are great for the board. 5. Use other boards All it takes for a board to grow is at least 2 dedicated anons using it. Don't be afraid to make a post, check places periodically, shill, or what have you. Don't force discussions to boards, just encourage the usage of them. 2. Worst video game titles

We often hear about the worst video games of all time, but what about the worst video game titles of all time? Starting off with two of the most obvious ones >Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days That's pronounced "three hundred fifty eight over two". Yes, they want you to pronounce it "over" but didn't bother writing it as an over. It only "works" in Japanese because furigana can tell you its pronounced that way, but its dumb even there. >Infinite Undiscovery Either an "undiscovery" is "lost", which would mean total amnesia (even walking, potentially even breathing), or an "undiscovery" is "not a discovery", which means the name is saying everything within is nothing new. (dis)honorable mention >Idea no Hi This one tries to make a English pun that does not actually work. The official name in "Day of the Idea" and 1: While "idea" in standard romanization, "イデア" isn't pronounced anything like the English "Idea" (as in thought) 2: "イデア" is a person, so the definite article here is just Engrish.

Are there any emulators I can run? Most emulators of the 16-bit era (fourth generation) and earlier consoles (e.g., Sega Genesis, NES, Atari 2600, etc.) can be run on any PC, even one with a CPU clock speed of below 1 GHz. higan is the only exception because it's highly accurate and requires a 3 GHz CPU for optimal performance. Other emulators such as Snes9x, Kega Fusion, Mesen, etc. can be run on any PC that can run Windows. My save states do not work in the new version of the emulator I downloaded. Why? Save states are not compatible between different versions of emulators, or between different emulators. Don't rely on them. Use real/battery saves which typically can be transferred, even if they need to be converted first. My game isn't working. How do I resolve problems on my own? Emulators can have stable builds that are weeks, months, and sometimes even years old. The "stable" version is often just a randomly picked dev (short for development) version, which is why the latest dev versions should often be preferred, as they solve emulation issues most of the time. If you're using a plugin-based emulator, graphical glitches and sound issues could be solved by changing the settings or using a different, better plugin altogether. Newer, more accurate emulators that do not use a plugin system may also be recommended. Try changing the graphics backend between OpenGL, Direct3D, and Vulkan. Sometimes, questions may have been asked and answered multiple times in the past. Check online. If you still can't find a solution, ask. Provide system specs, operating system, emulator, version, settings, plugins, system emulated, game emulated, and the problem itself.

Why are Japanese games more honest about the natural comeliness of under-18 year old girls?

Not even in a strictly sexual sense, just the fact that flowering youth is objectively, aesthetically beautiful, and young girls are cute and appealing as companions or mascots. Like, there's this recent game I'm playing that's growing in popularity, and you can pick a little girl as a starting companion alongside a dog, kitten, or bear. And whenever a western streamer or youtuber reaches that point in the game, they always do an about take, you can see sweat drops forming on their head as they think of the socially appropriate westerner answer, and invariably pick the dog or bear because they 'aren't weird'. What causes this unnatural behavior in western gamers?

Indie Games

After years of avoiding indie games like the plague because of how cancerous the community surrounding them is, I've finally decided to give them a try. I really love the 16 and 32 bit eras of games but I've played virtually all of the ones from that period that I would be interested in to death and the only people who seem to still be making games like that are indies. But there are so many out there and I'm certain 99% of them are bad so I need your help. What are the best indie games reminiscent of old 16 and 32 bit games? I'm up for pretty much any genre, 2D or 3D, except horror and roguelikes. They don't have to look exactly like games from back then but I'd prefer something that doesn't push gay/tranny/furry/feminist pozz; at least, not explicitly. I've already tried Undertale and I didn't like it. Also, general indie games thread.

Why So Many Video Games Cost So Much to Make

https://archive.is/fnNYh An article from Bloomberg goes into what's behind the ballooning cost of games, and it comes to the conclusion it's actually not "muh gwafix". The TL;DR is <incompetence <terrible workflow <bad production pipelines <no clear development plan Some quotes from the article. "le reddit spacing" to make it clear these are separate and out of context >I had coffee with a video-game developer who told me that work was slow and that they’d been spending half of their days watching Netflix. >There was the developer who couldn’t work because the game’s tools weren’t ready. There was the team that had to drop everything they were doing because the creative director had played Breath of the Wild over the weekend and came away with some Great Ideas. There were the artists who were blocked from working as they waited for a colleague to finish a design. >A small part of a game’s budget might go to miscellaneous costs like office rent and computer equipment, but the vast majority is earmarked for labor. Let’s do some quick napkin math. If you have 100 employees and you’re estimating $15,000 a month for each one, you’re spending $18 million a year. But these days, the top game studios are much bigger than that. So if you have 300 employees and you’re estimating $20,000 a month for each one (got to pay good wages to compete in 2025), you’re spending $72 million a year. Anon's note: If you think $20,000 a month is crazy, wages can be even higher than that. I think some of the positions at Riot start at $35,000 per month. >games are growing more expensive because of rampant mismanagement — because of companies chasing trends, making bad bets and lacking a clear creative vision. Inefficient workflows, technological shifts and insecure executives can all be the cause of wasted time, which equates to higher budgets. A common example these days is taking a team with years of experience making single-player games and pivoting them to a multiplayer game as a service. Thoughts? It's not a long read, I recommend checking it out. A lot of this is stuff you've likely already thought or noticed, but never saw articulated.

It reportedly accommodates both Linux/Windows, the device will either use a 7800U or a RK3588S processor for the higher-end model and will launch in October with three models costing between an estimated 1500元 ($220) and 3500元 ($500), though prices are not final. There is no publicly known name for the device yet >Gaming analyst firm Omdia estimates Steam Deck has sold over 2,000,000 units so far, having sold 1,600,000 in 2021 alone, and will likely surpass 3,000,000 this year. This makes the SD not just the bestselling UMPC in history, but possibly majority of UMPC sales ever. Ahead of Legion Go S shipping, we will be shipping a beta of SteamOS which should improve the experience on other handhelds, and users can download and test this themselves. Games Carried Completely by One Non-Gameplay Element

I was recently reminded of some games which, in my opinion, were carried entirely by the soundtrack. Immediately the ones which come to mind are things like whatever Tim Follin produced music for, like Pictionary on the NES, but also more contemporary titles like Skyrim and Mechanicus. Then this got me thinking about the other games out there which got completely carried by some other non-gameplay related element, like the story or the art style. I'm not talking a mix of one thing or another, but something going so far and beyond the rest of the characteristics of the game that it is recognized/remembered as the sole thing the game had going for it. I suppose another example would be Little Witch Nobeta which has pretty forgettable combat and even worse aspects besides, but it remembered because it has one cute girl in it whom the devs are not afraid at all to lewd in their official merchandise and marketing. Post some other examples which spring to mind, be it for soundtrack, artstyle, or something else - as long as it doesn't pertain to the gameplay.

Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale HD Edition announced for PC

CAPITALISM IS BACK GET FUCKED COMMIES EasyGameStation has announced Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale HD Edition, a remastered version of the December 31, 2007-released item shop simulation game / action RPG. It will launch in 2025 in Japan. Personally I hope they don't fuck up the localization considering how much of a mees that scene is. Although considering how influential this game was for PC, it's entirely possible some tranny within a company like XSEED or NISA will try and ruin it. recomend me a game, anons

I'm finding that i've gotten bored of my current library. what are some good games that you've guys have played? they don't have to be recent, or anything. for some pointers, here's some games i really enjoyed, and why i like them (and some reasons i don't) >Noita good: wand tinkering is really fun, falling sand simulation is interesting to play with bad: poor balance, underdeveloped mechanics. >KSP good: rocket go fwoosh. flying your own crafts is cool. successful missions are rewarding bad: performance, requires a physics degree to play optimally. >F:NV good: lots of dialogue options, colorful characters, and memorable locations. bad: start of the game (and whole main quest) is very linear, and DLCs are pretty mid. >skyrim good: beautiful environment, fun to wander around, non-commital builds. bad: gameplay is very simple, baby'd mechanics, lack of choice. >TF2 good: laid back and casual game, lots of weapon variety, a lot of personality bad: too much mediocre content, gotten a bit stale. >Factorio good: puzzles are simple, but come together to be complex, rewards thinking but does not demand it bad: gameplay is the same across playthroughs - lacks replayability

Dragon's Dogma 2: CapJews

So it seems that the launch of this game was piss poor due to the bad performance issues and normalfags waking up to the DRM/Microtransactions shit. Still there's a good game to be found, and I hope everyone is enjoying the game as much as I am. Just recently capcom released a new patch where they added a New Game function in addition to a FPS Lock for console fags. In addition to being able to get your own house earlier in the game, and changing Art of Metamorphosis to 99 instead of 2 in the Pawn Guild, thus eliminating the need for microtransactions altogether. Sadly it seems the performance issues won't be release until later this year since it seems capcom needs some more time to cook the game and have it working with DLSS3 and other techniques to make the game actually run at a bearable framerate. Still with all of the complaints they got, hopefully they can have some options to fix the performance issues by using the GPU a bit more in towns. Still, have you been enjoying the game /v/?

Blue Archive new thread

Making a new thread for the hit game taking the comiket doujin world by storm! The last thread >>793596 hit the bump limit, so I decided to make a new one as well considering we're close to the anniversary events >What is Blue Archive? A mobile game on iOS and Android, you play as a male teacher in a world where the only other humans are all female. Command your students as you take down enemies and learn about the world you've been thrust into. You're sure to find a favorite among the many students available to you. Also the soundtrack of the game is easily top tier. >Is this a gacha game? Yeah, it's a mobage, but F2P users are capable of winning as well on their own pace, and in the late-game, the gap between F2P and P2W is very small indeed - perhaps even nonexistent. Squilliam compilation thread – The End of E3gelion

> -1085 days until E3 Since it's summertime and E3 is officially dead and buried, I'm making one final Squilliam compilation video. Any Squilliam ideas you've been sitting on, this is your chance to get them in. Let's take a moment to remember the time every studio used to gather in one place to present their latest and greatest, before everyone started holding their own little conference no one cares about. If you have any memorable moments of past E3s, good or bad, post them in this thread. For old time's sake and so I can put some of it into the video. >I'm a newfag and what is this? It's been an 8chan tradition to make OC from a template based on Squilliam from Spongebob getting a heart attack. Download a template, open it in your favorite drawing/editing software and go nuts. When you're done, post it here (in a reply to the right anchor post to help me keep track of it). >How long do I have? I'm aiming for Sunday the 23rd of June as submission deadline, the video will be released sometime after that. >Can [board] on the webring participate? Of course! Whether it's a video game board, or just a hangout board interested in making OC. All I ask is that you help me find it by cross-posting your stuff here and linking it to the proper anchors. Feel free to share in your post what board you're representing. >What song are you going to use? Walk Away by Dokken >Is there gonna be a mosaic? Yes, see the later post. Try to make your squares E3-related if you can, this is about the death of E3, after all. >Are we never gonna see another compilation again? You probably will, I hope to make another one with a new template next year. I'm not making any promises, however.

What was the last game to have a rockin'/upbeat soundtrack?

The only thing I remember people saying about Wanted: Dead was that it had a great choice in music, but it's just a general question about what happened to games that used to have rockin', upbeat, fast, and loud music in general? I know these types of songs are still coming out (Especially in Japan), but I cannot think of a single game that really incorporates them outside of rhythm games you find in the arcade. Regular games just seem to have become dominated by grand orchestral music like they're trying to be some opera. So where are the games with the loud fast-paced music that's guaranteed to cause hearing loss?

AI RPG Text Adventure

https://perchance.org/ai-rpg Let's start a thread and share the results of our stories. I've been playing around with this and want to see what others can do with it. This is a digital dm. It can run any campaign you give it and it doesn't seem as restricted like other chat AIs. It goes along with some weird shit. Fantasy, modern day, sci fi. If you can think of it, it can do it if you give it some form of goal. I haven't played around with this part enough, but I assume you can make it stick to different rule sets or game mechanics if you explain it. Fill out the top box with the rules and world building. it will generate a paragraph of setting and other characters. You can then tell it what you'll do next or just hit continue and it will keep the story going without your input (often creating actions on your part). If you don't like something, you can directly edit the story text. Just delete a few lines here and there or rewrite it yourself and it parses that text as it continues the story. If you click generate template on the tracked info, it will keep a track of inventory, stats, character relationships and whatever else you want to write in there like a notepad. Play a game. Post your story highlights in this thread.

Gachashit Ghetto - Mobage Galore

Aka be glad (((Tel Aviv))) only knows how to make Raid: Shadow Legends edition. Given how many anons here play these titles and request an area to discuss them beyond Blue Archive >>1034800, given how many JP devs have fled to mobile as some of their more senile contemporaries chase the dead ESG gold rush, given how the bishoujo market is concentrated in mobage, and given how many players have actually banded together and organized to repel and BTFO globohomo as of late, I think a mini >>>/vmg/ is warranted. As OP I however get to christen it a "ghetto" until somebody else takes over the succeeding OPs. Do note that all discussion related to the technological and industry dynamic shifts these live services (yes they are live services) propose as well as topics directly pertaining to their cross-platform nature (i.e talking about how Aether Gazer is available on both PC and mobile or the number of gacha games on Steam) should be directed to this thread instead >>986877 If you want to discuss, say, how Lies of P and Brown Dust 2 were both developed by Neowiz, or how neato Versus and Relink are as part of Cygames' Granblue Fantasy IP, do it over there. You can talk about Action Taimanin's 4th anniversary, you can't talk about how well it runs on PC here. Non-gacha MMOs should also be directed to the existing MMO thread >>897003 Post memes, post updates to your chosen main gacha, post liveblogs of your playthroughs, post artdumps, post collabs, post obscure JP and about-to-EOS gachas, post about how the fuck match-three RPGs are still on the market, post about Senran Kagura New Link and Dead or Alive: Penis Vacation, complain about drama and monetization and mixed toilet games and girls trying to push their otome bishie gachas, just make your contributions high effort and high quality and try to max out 8chan's 5-file 50MB upload limit. You are allowed to be horny about certain characters, but your posts about them must be substantive (no >>>/vb/ template posting, for example). <geez, are you smug's owner No, I care about digital hygiene and board nettiquette. NEWS AT A GLANCE Going to try to hash out a format since this is very new for 8/v/. >GFL2, the successor to many anons' favorite gacha circa 2017, is set to come to Global this fall with a closed beta test and prereg being held. (Read: they need that gweilo piggu money.) Luckily, they are cranking up that fanservice, of which I won't post yet because this OP needs to cover multiple titles. >Unluckily, the CN state censor department has randomly struck a bunch of gachas with notices to sharpie over their character designs, the most notable of which was Snowbreak, enrager of BPD harpies everywhere, and Path to Nowhere. For the time being, Snowbreak has elected to use the localization toggle as a way to technically comply with said censor wave while still giving its playerbase what it wants; its future is still uncertain though as the devs continue to give Winnie the Pooh the finger. It seems like more and more that CN devs need to move off West Taiwan's mainland if they are to realize their creative and financial ambitions. >In general, the global economic downturn has meant that the gacha market has slowly been contracting on mobile. PC, however, seems to be booming as devs find that players are willing to open their wallets without having to pay Apple and Gulag the provider tax. >Arknights and Nikke are holding their 5.5 and 2nd anniversaries respectively, with both of them making big stinks about how they have new anime projects in the pipeline, never mind how all people remember from Blue Archive airing is Iori's toes getting sucked. >Azur Promilia has started receiving age ratings in Taiwan. >Mihomo has rebranded its Harvest Moon knockoff project from Asteweave Heaven to Petit Planet. >Uma Musume is gearing up for a global release. When? Not clear. This is for umaanon though. >Infinity Nikki is making waves as a big open world gacha that Soyny is banking on to get some crumbs after chasing off every Asian third party in existence. >Persona X, the one with the hag, has been spotted on Steam's database as coming to Global on PC. >Atelier Resleriana seems to want to apologize for Koei Tecmo's egregious globohomo censorship by parading the cast out for the obligatory summer event with bikini and swimsuit costumes. Unfortunately, it doesn't undo the fact that policore safety shorts are being slapped everywhere faster than pedophiles can slap children's asses. >Tribe Nine is a thing. Came and went on Steam Next Fest. >Dead or Alive: Penis Vacation is pushing out Prism onto consoles, but the original gacha still exists in its glory. >I'm going to go out on a limb and start editorializing, because Netease has the unenviable task of trying to sell Destiny Rising to the gacha demographic and it is hilarious. Yes, I'm sure pronouns are going to help it compete with big titty anime girls. --- ///I would put resources to combat gaming and gambling addiction here...if I HAD ANY\\\ Play responsibly and don't pay any money, how about that. Should be the norm but we have an awful lot of newfags here on the younger side who have yet to benefit from elders' experience.

Unicorn Overlord a masterpiece you should not buy

/v/ I'm here to say after playing it via emulation of the Switch version that Unicorn Overlord is a masterpiece , 10/10 and as the kids would say GOAT. If not for the fact Elden Meme's DLC is coming out and the potential of Metaphor: ReFantazio, I would say this is JPRG of 2024 hands fucking down. This might even surpass Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir , Dragon's Crown and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim as Vanillaware's best game, it's that fucking good. <But anon you just spend the first bit of this post practically on the knees sucking it off why are you saying not buy it? The localisation of this game is not great and if you're a Vanillaware fag like I am you should not support the English version of this game period, if you want to support Vanillaware go buy a JP copy of this from Amazon jp or other moon storefront. Yes it's not totally pozzed like say FE or others have been but it still changes the tone and intent of the game >WHO CARES IF THE DIALOGUE IS FLOWERY ANON? You should care as it's still an alter of the original work and an utter disrespect of Vanillaware >WHERE IS THE PC VERSION YOU NIGGER? There is none as for whatever reason the CEO of Vanillware is super butthurt towards PC as platform, which is a shame as the mods of this game would be amazing and patches to unfuck the localisation would also be very welcomed. I think this would've added another 500k sales or even more if it was on steam as let's face it consoles are pretty much dying, even in Japan PC has gotten pretty big (not big enough where it's fully taken over like the west and Slavland), even Atlus was scratching their heads on why Vanillaware asked them to not allow a PC version. >DOES THIS GAME HAVE WAIFUS? Yes it does and they are all amazing but if you're a hag lover like myself Yahna is best girl. >WHERE CAN ONE EUMLATE IT? Ryujinx is what I used and I'm unsure if there are others, so perhaps a kind anon could correct me. <Closing notes If you're looking for something that beats modern FE(FE: Three Houses wasn't too bad but I understand why people might not care for it) this next to StellaGlow will fill that Strategy JRPG niche. How many hours you anons put into it and and who were your favourites? Also SCARLETT A SHIT!

"Romeo and Juliet" style endings/relationships in games

For some reason, I'm rather interested in stories where something like this happens >Star-crossed lovers >Seems to be a perfect pair >They get into some sort of trouble and have to separate or can never see each other again, or one of them loses their memories or something like that Maybe I'm just feeling masochistic. I don't know. In any case, the only ones like this I can think of are <Tatsuya and Maya in Persona 2 <Kurisu and Okabe in Steins;Gate Unless you count the true ending <Professor Layton and Claire from the Unwound Future Got any more? Post them ITT. Bonus points if it's not just from visual novels because I could probably name a few more from that genre. Also use this thread to post some good couples from vidya in general.

Anon's Bizarre Adventure AKA /v/ makes an RPG maker game

What happened to it? I feel like working on it again, but i don't have the latest version. For those that don't know, here’s how it works. Everyone is taking turns downloading the newest version of the game, making contributions before reuploading it for someone else to work on it. Only one person can actively work on it at a time. This is because if two people make overlapping changes to the database, scripts or switches, they will conflict resulting in one person having to redo all their work. Changes to the map and events can be copy-pasted from one version of a project to another so you’re free to work on new maps and new events if its not your turn and add them to the current version of the game once it is your turn. It should work like this. OP posts newest version of the map. The first person (Anon #1) to respond to OP stating that he’s going to work on it becomes the active game dev. Once Anon #1 finishes and re-uploads it, the first person to respond to him gets to work on it. So on and so forth. Additionally, whenever you re-upload a new version, reply to the anchor post, it’ll make things a lot easier. General Rules >Don’t mess with maps, events or anything else you didn’t make. Although, adding minor stuff like a connection between two areas or fixing bugs and typos is all fine. >If you’re ok with others editing your stuff, leave a note saying so. >You’re free to add characters and the like, to the inter-dimensional tavern. >You’re also free to make changes to game settings, unless its something we’ve agreed upon (we’ll probably do this via a poll) >We also have a dedicated board now >>>/bizarre/ come post and check it out! (The exact way we use, and the general purpose of the board in relation to the threads on /v/ will probably change change over time. However there will always be threads maintained on /v/, regardless of what happens on the board.) Current version of the game: UNKNOWN! I HAVE 0.55 BUT I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S THE LATEST ONE. IF YOU HAVE A LATER VERSION AVAILABLE POST IT! RPG Maker VX ACE magnet: This one contains all the DLC 76UC6DG7 Sprites and stuff: Feel free to steal https://rpg-maker-artists.deviantart.com/gallery/25208345/RPG-Maker-Sprites You can also steal more shit from the XV Ace steam workshop using this http://steamworkshopdownloader.com/ Archive of Previous Thread: https://8kun.top/v/res/16890428.html (Threads here aren't archived) FAQ >How do I RPG Maker VX Ace? Here’s a good tutorial series if you want to learn how to use it. inb4 jewtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzqt1PzBxxQ&list=PLzevVXwTX9wipsdJnTsuzUoCLb9v5npat >What about RPG Maker MV? We decided in the last thread that we’re using VX Ace. We’re not changing this again. Get it out of your head right now. If you made content in MV you’ll have to back port it to VX Ace. It sucks, but we’re not doing any more engine changes. >Why don't you fucks use version control? Like RPG Maker MV, we tried that and the project died. Nobody wanted to learn git. It can't be helped. Plus someone needs a (((premium))) account if we want the project to be private. >Are you guys affiliated with [PUT ANY OTHER /v/ PROJECT HERE] No, the group creating this game is not a stable dev group and is only comprised of random anons who get interested in the project enough to start developing is. >Add X to the Game! Suggestions are fine, but if you want something added to the game. DO IT YOURSELF. Its not that hard. >What should I add? Go nuts, add whatever the hell you like! (However, please keep in mind that if the filesize of this project gets too large it’ll become unruly to work with. So please be somewhat conservative when adding large music or .ogv files.) >Is OP a faggot? Yes. Forever and ever.

STOP KILLING GAMES CAMPAIGN

TO EUROBROS AND STRAYAN ANONS: YOU CAN DO YOUR PART AND TAKE ACTION TO MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD, AS A CONSUMER, TO STOP GAMES AS A SERVICE. https://www.stopkillinggames.com/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w70Xc9CStoE >An increasing number of videogames are sold as goods, but designed to be completely unplayable for everyone as soon as support ends. The legality of this practice is untested worldwide, and many governments do not have clear laws regarding these actions. It is our goal to have authorities examine this behavior and hopefully end it, as it is an assault on both consumer rights and preservation of media. This campaign originally started from some youtuber who hated the fact that The Crew, an Ubishit racing game, would close their online services and making the game he purchased basically unplayable. Even if it would technically be possible to run the game offline, it's unfortunately prevented by DRM and other jewish nonsense plaguing modern gaming today. He is making a rallying campaign, asking for the 12 million people who effectively got scammed after buying The Crew to make their voice heard and complain about this, so that governments can take action and hopefully set a precedent to destroy GAAS as we know it in an effort to preserve videogames. Any step taken towards making publishers and greedy kike game companies release offline versions of multiplayer-only games is a win. Any effort contributing to popularizing the now lost practice of giving server tools to gamers for them to make their own community servers is a good thing in my eyes. If you care about vidya, it's in your best interest to spread awareness of this campaign and do as much as you possibly can, even if you don't like the EU. Sign petitions, screech about it, etc. They've shown that they can seriously cripple anti-consumer practices, as seen with Apple.

Souls Thread: Melina has no closure edition.

Let's discuss Elden Meme and the other souls games (Sekiro included). I hope everyone is enjoying the expansion for Elden Ring and let's hope that Black Myth: Wukong won't be chink trash. I've personally been having a great time with SoTE save for the sheer lack of closure for Melina and other lose ends. The lack of new endings and questionable final boss with Shota Femto and his buck broken brother along with some story flaws are my biggest gripes out of what is otherwise a very solid DLC. Fae & fay

Videogames either all about fairy tales or just have a lot of fairy tale creatures such as satyrs, changelings, trolls and faeries. I have been in a weird mood all day thinking about the fae. but reading about the dreaming changeling isn't quenching my thirst for fay. I want more. Now I know of a few games that has fairies. Quite a few of them. Legend of zelda has multiple different types. Dragons crown has a tinkerbell look alike following you all around. I think one of the other vanillaware games has you playing a fairy as well. Was it odin sphere or grim grimoire? Unicorn overlord does have elves with their fairy companions but I barely noticed the fairies during my playthrough. Fairies were a pretty big part of FFXIVs shadowbringer expansion but I am really burned out on that game. Total warhammer does have a lot of fey creatures spread throughout the beastmen and the wood elves. Preferably I would want something like a role playing game set in a feywild type world. I am willing to try other things though. I know there is one fairy RPG on XBLA but I only played the demo for it years ago and I don't think its even available anymore.

Luanti thread

I'm afraid to make a Luanti thread because the game is much better than Minecraft. It's the definitive block building video game. (popularity is not a measure of quality). I'm afraid to make a thread and advertise it's existence for fear of it becoming too popular (normalfags ruin everything). I'm going to make 1 thread about it (per imageboard) and that's it because the userbase is a bit TOO small for my taste and this game could use a bit more players. >How is Luanti better than Minecraft -it is a self contained and simple application. The audio always works, the game always runs reliably. -simple and intuitive Linux and Windows support -it is a convenient platform for mods. This is a big deal. Mods are a 1 click install. There's been times where I didn't like something about the base game so I immediately went and downloaded a mod and the problem was fixed in 5 minutes. -Open source for maximum customizability -every aspect of this game is free as in costs no money. -no corporate faggotry overlordom from micro$oft -Online play is simple and intuitive

2024 in reflection

Well /v/ it's the last day of 2024 and for others it's 2025 already. I thought it be nice to reflect on what might've been a turning point in history, not only for gaming but the world in general. In 2024 we had notable games and DLC (for better or for worse) >Balatro coming out of nowhere and wowing people >Granblue Fantasy Relink finally coming out and being a good ARPG >Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth continuing the Yakuza series surprisingly great shift into turn based RPGs >Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was a total failure and might've been the death warrant of Rocksteady >Unicorn Overlord which many consider to be Vanillaware's Magnum opus but mired with controversy over it's flowerily localisation which in turn brought back the heated discourse over localisation >Dragon's Dogma 2 finally came out to a mess of micro transactions, horrid optimisation issues, DEI and questionable design choices >Helldivers winning hearts by being a fun team TPS and breaking hearts with Sony and Arrowhead fucking things up Elden meme's DLC comes out to universal acclaim and sparks the conservation of how DLC should be made from now on >Earth Defense Force 6 need I even say more /v/? >Black Myth: Wukong despite the games media trying everything to shill against it breaks every record for player count on steam and beyond >Concord becomes the biggest disaster in gaming's history >Star Wars Outlaws is a total flop for Ubisoft and adds to the company's woes > Astro Bot a decent platformer that Sony paid to win the shill awards 2024 >40k Space Marines 2 won the hearts of 40k tards and gamers alike with the game just being an unapologetic 7th gen action TPS that kept to the lore of the series >FF 16 PC finally comes out of the Nogame5's prison but with mixed attention >Frostpunk 2 comes out and autism ensures >The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom >Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP comes out much to everyone's pleasure >The Forever Winter an early access grimdark survival horror TPS that surprisingly has potential to perhaps be a big grimdark franchise >Mouthwashing an indie game that awed people with it's real depiction of a narcissist who ruins the lives of anyone he interacts with >Starfield: Shattered Space comes out and no one gives an iota of a fuck >Silent Hill 2's (((remake))) >Metaphor: ReFantazio (one of the weirdest on this list) a game that went under the radar despite being Atlus game it has a lackluster localisation and feels rushed but most notably the game's nuanced approach to politics caused spergs on the right, left and centre to meltdown >Slay the Princess's The Pristine Cut DLC expanded the game to large degree >Dragon Age: The Failguard a game that is so hard into sjw gender politics and dumbed down the RPGs aspects of the game so hard that normalfags simply couldn't stomach it >Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered a pleasant surprise for Suda51 fans >Slitterhead a game that took gameplay elements from Gravity Rush/Daze and siren >S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl for better or for worse came out >Indiana Jones and the Great Circle which despite being an Indiana Jones game has gone under the radar with low player counts >Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered >MiSide a yandere indie game that unlike Yandere Sim actually came out and We had an interesting year for games /v/ but lets get to the fall of AAA studios and defeat/weakening of the left's hold on entertainment >Ubisoft's attack on the Japanese with AssCreed Shadows has utterly destroyed the company along with other bad choices due to incompetency or DEI brain rot Tencent will most likely buy them up >Sony's near billion dollar lost with Concord along with DEI/SJW or plan bad business choices ravaging it's studios has left it in fucking shambles to the point they bribed Doritos Pope to give their one non sjw game the award >Rocksteady is effectively a support studio due to Suicide Squad and WB might kill it off anytime >M$ pretty much gave up on the Xbox brand and their attempts to rebrand 343 into Halo studios failed due to still having the Halo hating sjws in charge >Bungie is falling apart and Marty O'Donnell is having a fucking blast watching it happen >ND's latest "masterpiece" by (((Cuckmann))) plot was leaked and it's even worse then expected >Suckerpunch killed the goodwill they built over the years by hiring a Japanese American whore brainwashed by retarded sjw gender politics as lead for the next Ghost game < Interestingly Jin's VA had a total sperg out over Orange man so bad that even normalfags mocked him >It has become mainstream to mock Sjweeb localisers to the point normalfags are pushing for AI to replace the cocksuckers >GW is trying to play both sjws and 40ktards with the female custodies >BioWare's failure with Failguard has shattered moral and lead to employees leaking shit out of spite >Rockstar has been infested with sjws which leads to GTA 6's future being uncertain >Journalists still are getting BTFO'd daily >Orange man winning again has caused every sjw in gaming and entertainment to not even get angry but just become genuinely depressed This was a year where normalfags simply couldn't fucking take it anymore and it shows /v/. They rejected the AAA trash, sjws and even elected Trump again all in 10 anniversary of Gamergate.

Metaphor: ReFantazio thread

I'm the OP of the original thread and since the last thread got ruined by autism. I decided to make a new thread focusing on discussing the game and making OC. Since I'm one of the maybe three people on this whole board playing, I'll give my impressions and speculations. >This game was rushed in aspects >The game does have Romance but it's half assed in the weirdest ways >Localisation is ass >Bong VAs are tolerable but JP is always better >Game isn't sjw but pretty critical of all the character's respective ideologies >It's genuinely critical of the MC's idealism >He and the party accept that they've been naive at certain realties >The rival throne candidates's views are also pointed at being flawed having pros >Some more incorrect then others (The eat the rich beast girl is given a nasty wake up over her fantasy Marxism for one example) >Game is much more traditional JRPG meets SMT meets FF style job system meets modified Persona links >The tolerance virtue is a lot more nuanced then what twitter sjws or RW twitter grifters would tell you >Some of the Not social links are clearly romantic in nature but Atlus cut them >Speculate they wanted to test the waters by not fully adding it but not fully removing it either >Think they'll cave with a "Throne edition" that adds full on romance and other stuff that was cut >They cucked out on giving true changeable gear >You can change weapons and buy armour >But save for costume skins they don't change outward party appearance when you put on armour from a shop >Like XB2 you can chain combos with your party with the press turn system >PC version despite denuvo hasn't ran like ass on my five year old rig <I'm just as surprised as you anons >Strohl and the male party members are bros >Hulkenberg might be best girl due how much of a spergy dork she is Note there is a way to play the full game by hacking the demo, which I'll try looking for.

The forgotten art of convenience

So I got a sudden urge to play Runescape (2007scape, it should go without saying) again after however many years. Didn't have anything spectacular in mind, mostly just wanted to fuck about in Lumbridge, murder a few chickens, chop a few trees, basically just live out the experience of being a noob again for shits and giggles. Now, back in the day, all you needed in order to start playing was to go to the website, open the game, click "new account", come up with a username and a password, and you were good to go. Upon trying to set up an account, this was my experience: >Game is no longer browser based, you have to download a client to even run it >Click to make new account >Game opens up my web browser >Have to enter account info there, can no longer do so in the game window >Click to make new account >Get redirected like, 4 times >Have to fill out captcha not once, but twice >Have to give an e-mail address, game no longer accepts usernames >Don't feel like giving my actual e-mail address >Make throwaway Gmail account >Enter it in >Webpage decides I've put in "too many requests" and blocks me from finishing the process >Attempt to finish signing up on my phone browser >Blocked on there as well >After an hour or so, decide to try again >Get redirected multiple times, again >Have to fill out multiple captchas, again >Finally am able to finish creating the account >Open up client >Enter in the email I just signed up with >"New accounts must use the Jagex Launcher" >Have to download an entire launcher, alongside the client, in order for the game to allow me to connect >Decide it's no longer worth it and give up the attempt When and why did simple convenience become such a no-no in the gaming world? Why is all this bullshit involved with something as simple as setting up an account, that benefits absolutely no-one and serves no purpose but to hinder and infuriate people who just want to play the fucking game? It's not just Runescape, either. Almost every game you come across now requires some sort of sign up that requires forking over email addresses, signing up for special accounts, whatever. Then, years later, these companies have a security breach, and whoops, all your accounts and e-mail addresses or whatever are out there in the hands of whomever, because these companies apparently absolutely NEEDED to have them, for some reason, just to let you play a 30 year old game for a few hours. And before anyone starts saying "It's to deter bots", no, no it absolutely is not. Anyone who has ever played free to play Runescape for more than 5 seconds will tell you that free to play is absolutely filled to the brim with bots, to the point where the game becomes borderline unplayable for legitimate players on more populated worlds. Anyone who has played for any length of time can tell you that Jagex absolutely, positively, does not give a FUCK about getting rid of bots or doing anything to solve or address the bot problem. Anyone trying to tell you that all these extra steps are some attempt on their part to try and deter these people (who probably have automated programs that do the entire signup process for them anyway) is completely delusional. So, I guess the TL;DR version of my post is: What is the point of all these extra steps in the signup process for pretty much everything? Why is a simple username and password not sufficient anymore?

Eroge

Last thread is on page 12 and beyond the bump limit, but eroge marches steadily onward. Just at the beginning of this month, Monster Girl Quest:Paradox Part 3 finally released, making the game complete unless I missed something about them extending it to a 4th part. Available here, https://www.dlsite.com/maniax/work/=/product_id/RJ01114724.html I do not yet know where to pirate it, but I'm sure it will crop up one of my usual sites around when translation is finished. Still being actively translated, you can follow translation progress here, https://arzorx.wordpress.com/ Given Part 2 took 3 months from the date of release, I except this one take at least that long, if not at least 4 months, as it's larger. In the meanwhile, I'm sure there's anons learning JP that may still enjoy the game, or may even want to contact the current team to contribute to the translation in the coming months. Also mentioned at the end of the last thread and currently in development with a free demo is Princess Reconquista. Play a (totally not) Central/South American Princess and fight off your white (totally not) Spaniard conquerors in a pixelshit action game. Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered

So I finished getting all the Achievements, in both games of the remaster, and thought I'd give a run-down of things, since currently the remaster has some good points, but is also a bit rough around the edges. When it comes to the Graphics, I'd describe SR1 as the kind of graphical update that is like putting on a par of glasses to see more clearly. The developers of this remaster were able to get the original images that were used for all of the textures, so all the textures in the game are the pretty much the same just in a higher resolution, although at some points it can feel like this added Clarity to everything can remove a some of the grit that the original visuals lend to the art style. There are new character models for every being in the games, and some of SR1's new models now actually have their lips move when they are speaking. SR1 also features a day and night cycle now, which was cut from it's original release. Both games now feature Subtitles, and you can change the Language of the voice acting if you want. When it comes to SR2 the Graphical improvements can feel a lot less noticeable, and there is actually a reason for this. Where with SR1 they were able to use the original assets to make smaller sized textures more clear, SR2 has it's textures stretched over much larger peaces of Geometry, so using those original assets just achieve the same result as they are stretched too far for the texture to look good. Outside the new character models, only smaller objects will have more noticeable improvements due to this. The new character models look good in SR2, but in some cases they can lose a little something during the cutscenes compared to the original models, as the cutscenes are designed with the original models in mind. In terms of gameplay content, the games are very much still the same as they ever were, I think the just streamlined the controls so SR1 and SR2 both use the same control scheme, and you are now a bit more in control of the camera in SR1. There is a Map now for SR1, and when hovering over areas it'll show a notification of the collectables you have or haven't acquired, so that can be useful. The most Significant addition to this remaster is the section for the Lost Levels, it features access to play and explore the cut levels from SR1, which they did need to remove quite a bit from. Now the main negatives of this Remaster is that in its current state it has it's fair share of bugs. I didn't encounter too many in my play time, but others have seen a lot. It's possible for a loading zone to not render the game world right and to just be standing in a black void, until you have the game re-load again. Some people have managed to have block puzzles messed up and be rendered impossible to solve, some have claimed the Night time lighting is way too dark for them, making the game unplayable until day, SR2 just has this Black Cube show up in the Air Forge when viewing the remastered Graphics. Personally I didn't have a bad Experience with this remaster, but it undoubtably needs an update or two, before it's in a complete state.

Project Cyrodiil: Abecean Shores released

Trailer: https://invidious.jing.rocks/watch?v=Ys09ASlNy4U >what is this? Project Cyrodiil: Abecean Shores is a massive, free, fan-made expansion to The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It adds a large chunk of the province Cyrodiil >how big is it Not counting water tiles for either, this new area is half the size of the original game. Unlike the original game, Abecean Shores has actual content in its water cells where the original game's water was just empty once you left the coast, which pushes the actual size of the release even further. >Oblivion was boring Project Cyrodiil is not a recreation of the world of Oblivion, but rather a depiction of Cyrodiil as it was in pre-Oblivion lore. >are there quests or is it just an empty land There's plenty of quests. In-fact there's even a "main quest" of sorts in the Anvil government questline >how powerful does my character need to be It is entirely possible to play the new content from level 1. >what do I need to play this You need Morrowind with both official expansions (any modern release, including "Game of the Year Edition", has them), the newest Tamriel Data, and the Abecean Shores release itself. Additionally you will neeed either the very newest (experimental build 0.49, not the "current" 0.48) engine replacement OpenMW (Recommended: Morrowind.exe was never made with the expectation anyone would be this far from the origin and has significant jitter due to point imprecision, and is super unstable even without that issue) or, if you're insisting on using the original engine, MWSE with Morrowind Code Patch, UI Expansion, and Morrowind Graphics Extender to minimize the many issues encountered. Exploits and glitches in videogames thread

Do you like to discover advantageous exploits and glitches in video games? Do you know videogame exploits that affect the mechanics in a useful or broken or fun way? The Video Game Glitches Wiki is a wiki about exploits and glitches that anyone can edit, with 1,235 articles since January 2006. Go to the Video Game Glitches Wiki, bring an exploit or glitch back, and discuss it, or discuss an exploit or glitch you found or know. https://glitches.fandom.com/wiki/Video_Game_Glitches_Wiki Some exploits and glitches have been iconic and memorable. in Sid Meier's Civilization, Gandhi, an extremely peaceful leader, has a peace rating so low that an integer overflow glitch causes it to wrap around to 255, instead of dropping to -1, which causes Gandhi to turn into an absolute warmonger. Games such as Pac-Man and Donkey Kong have kill screens. Pac-Man's involves a half-developed 255th level which is impossible to complete, while Donkey Kong's 117th level gives the player 4 seconds to win. The Minus World glitch (World -1) is found at the end of World 1-2 in Super Mario Bros. At the end of World 1-2, Mario can squeeze between bricks that separate normal exits from the Warp Zone. Jumping through these, Mario finds himself in a copy of World 7-2 that endlessly loops. When video games came on a cartridge, you could cause glitches by simply tugging and dislodging the cartridge. One example was in Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo 64. If you snuck up on the guards and tugged slightly on its left, they spin out of control like a tornado. World of Warcraft had a corrupted blood incident in September 2005 when a new boss was introduced, Hakkar the Soulflayer. Hallar could cast a spell on the player intended to last for only a couple of seconds, except it didn't and was contagious. The effects killed off lower-levelled players and players soon began quarantining and avoiding populated places while others continued to spread the infection to others. Real-world epidemiologists studied this glitch. What sites and YouTube channels cover exploits and glitches? youtube.com/@AStartShow/playlists has playlists of exploits and glitches like Son of a Glitch, Glitch Shorts, Glitchmas, Minor Glitches, 12 Days of Glitchmas, Son of a Glitchfest, and Son of a Glitch Speedruns.

Do you own any vidya merchandise?

Toys, t-shirts, kitchenware, statues, etc. If not, Is there any you would like to own but is too expensive/not worth it? If you don't know, Resaurus is a toy company from the late 90s which made toys from vidya franchises at from the time. They went bankrupt shortly after due to how high detailed these figures were compared to their prices, making them unprofitable. Because of this they will fetch very high prices in today's market.

XSeed: "Senran Kagura Would not Prosper in the West in This Day and Age"

This really needs its own thread because of how right STUPID this shit is. This is like banning RPGs on the Sega Saturn levels of stupid, all because of retarded twitter/reddit/discord politics. These people can't see outside their little Californian bubble, and it pisses me the fuck off. The console game market is run by people who hate games, that's the only excuse I can think of when explaining this malicious ignorance. It's been proven time and time again that these games sell as long as there's a good gameplay structure. Even with an above average gameplay structure, Stellar Blade selling over a million copies in the past year alone PROVES that now is the best time to release Senran Kagura IN SPITE of gaming journalists and the reddit/twitter/discord grooming audience. Not only that, but the entire mobile market with games like Blue Archive and NIKKE is making millions of dollars in capital. You could make the market that "Oh it's just whales", but I would argue that's not a legitimate excuse when Stellar Blade sells over a million copies and other games like fucking Capes don't even sell close to that. That's not to mention Flintlock that has its numbers inflated by Gamepass only sold half the amount of Stellar Blade with a much bigger marketing campaign. There's no excuse for this level of stupidity, but what can we do about it? Maybe we can contact shareholders and have them communicate our issues through them? There's no excuse for this level of incompetence, although I'd personally argue that it's maliciousness considering everything I've talked about. sauce: https://noisypixel.net/xseed-games-ken-berry-interview/ https://archive.ph/N2zJb

When will the false dilemma end?

Why is there no such thing as a plot-driven open world game? Why do all developers seem to have this brain parasite that only allows them to make great, compelling and memorable narratives *OR* huge, exciting and completely seamless world to explore, but *NEVER* the two things together? No, excuses such as "open world and plot-driven are inherently incompatible" are 100% bullshit because there is no conceivable reason why that should be the case. As a thought experiment, take Xenoblade Chronicles X, probably the best open-world ever made, but practically devoid of story; now imagine it having the story of Xenogears; or, better yet, imagine if Xenogears got remade with an open world in the same exact style as Xenoblade Chronicles X. Would that somehow magically make the world or exploration any less compelling? No, it wouldn't, in the slightest. Would the story somehow magically lose its power? Again, no. No reason why it should. So, why?

Game of the Month #15 (December's Long Haul): Lobotomy Corporation (PC)

>What is this? This is exactly how it sounds: A game is chosen each month (which will be relatively or totally obscure on purpose) with hopes of bringing new avenues of playing potential to anons with narrow video game perspectives. The goal isn't necessarily to pick bad games, but obscure ones nobody, or as few people as possible, have played. You can play the game and then use that fact as bragging rights to others! You can use it to broaden your backlog horizons! or you can forget about it. It's up to you. THIS MONTH: Lobotomy Corporation (PC) >Where do I get this? aHR0cHM6Ly9tZWdhLm56LyMhc1JOSFNJYUIhbGh1QVRaQWptbUFmQVNTWnZMaUdHeVBWNVZvWUJrZkx3dF9OeGd2UHljSQ== aHR0cHM6Ly9tZWdhLm56LyMhaFZ0Z2pDQlEhN0xRS1ozN2kxdWZKdFlBUENST19lWE9GTE90NFdfdUFmdFUweU5QMnNqZw== >Next Month For January, the theme will be One Coin January! Poll: https://poal.me/4vqyi4 In honor of the long defunct /1cc/ board, next month's games will be all about Arcade titles. More specifically, the entries must pertain to one or more of the following categories: - The game is a pure Arcade game that can be emulated with MAME or similar emulators (i.e. Sunset Riders for Arcade cabinets); - The game is a remake of an Arcade cabinet (i.e. THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: Remake); - The game is a port of an Arcade game (i.e. Virtua Striker 3 (Ver. 2002)); - The game is a collection of Arcade titles (i.e. Namco Museum Vol. 1). BONUS ROUD As the entries are all titles that can be reasonably beat within a couple of hours at best, in January we will celebrate the new year with THREE games being voted as the Games of the Month! So don't forget to make your voice heard! GUIDELINES FOR FUTURE GotMs: If you do not like any of the games in the poll, you can either add a new entry manually, or reply to the OP with a different suggestion. So new AI has had some time to mature. Are there any games that make good use of it as tactical and strategic opponents in any genre aside from chess and such? Any smart RTS game? An adventure game where others in the world have their own agendas? An RPG with opponents that are smart with their weapons and the territory or a companion with unique lines and an ability to use tactics?

ITT: Characters that flopped and how they could've been salvaged

With pic related, I think he could've been much better if he had been programmed to be a more cerebral boss fight where you have to flexibilize your strategies in order to beat him, possibly based on your class and those of your party members. Snipe your big guns, suppress your sniper, maybe some weird supertech that lets him cuck your biotics, and so on. If you rely on one playstyle for most of the game and get complacent he'll wreck your shit and force you out of your comfort zone. His tactics evolve across his multiple boss fights and you have to keep up and avoid stagnating or relying too much on one thing, as well as beat him to the punch. Personality is a more complicated subject. I think he could've benefited from being more no-nonsense, crib off some traits off Shepard to add to his status as an arch-enemy, either bringing his own party members with distinct personalities and skillsets to counter yours or leaning more on his one-man-army hype and make him a cold and detached warrior type. Maybe if you feel adventurous you could have him pick up traits that depends on how you played your Shepard's personality for added contrast. TL;DR: Make him someone you have to struggle to beat, and you WANT to beat to prove yourself superior. What about you? Any characters you could mention that had wasted potential but could've been good?

Cuhrayzee Vidya

I haven't seen a thread discussing stylish action for a while, let's change that. Honestly I was kinda disappointed with Bayonetta 3, it wasn't nearly as good as the previous two games and I feel basically killed the series seeing as Kamiya left Platinum in order to work at Hamster probably. Still, it's kinda sad that Bayonetta was destined to die a mediocre death. That said as for Bayonetta's twin IP Astral Chain, apparently Nintendo completely owns the rights to that IP now, so hopefully we can see them develop the sequel in house since I would love to see how Nintendo tackles these kinds of games. Other than a few indie games, there's not really much going on with the genre. The Genokids demo was top notch and I highly recommend everyone here give it a chance, but other than that I'm waiting to hear about some surprise hits like Hi-Fi Rush since that was an extremely pleasant surprise and was actually did better than both Microsoft and Bethesda expected it to be. So hopefully we'll see a new Hi-Fi Rush in the future. Other than that, I'm sure Capcom is gonna remake DMC1 or DMC3 at some point in the near future, and like I said before Hi-Fi Rush did surprisingly well. So I strongly doubt the genre is dead, but that it usually takes a bit to get one of these games off the ground since Souls is the hot sauce these days. Still, what cuhrayzee games are you playing right now /v/? I'm going through Ninja Gaiden and God Hand myself, enjoying them as always.

Games that made you feel

This thread isn't specifically about sadness, it can be a wide range of things. Wherever you felt surprise at how good or shit a game was, anger due to something that happened in game or external factors, excitement at an unexpected announcement or at an extremely cool set piece or moment, as long as the game elicited a strong emotion out of you while playing. You can go with something that you played recently or one of your favorite games. I'll give one of my favorites, Nier Automata. It's a basic choice, but it's the first time I remember a game being able to make me react to something strongly. I had already thoroughly enjoyed the game but by the time I had gotten to Ending E and the credits sequence the game really got to me. It was amazing, the way the music was synced to the scene and how hopeful it felt after seeing so many characters die shitty deaths just really hit hard. It's the second time a game has gotten me teary eyed. Looking forward to hearing what you anons have to say!

Loli games

With the demo confirming Dragon's Dogma 2 is shit, even beyond lack of loli MC, let's talk about games that do let you play as a loli. Any recommendations for games not on this chart? With mods Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord lets you play as a loli using base game assets. It's a pretty fun experience. During Early Access they actually had nipples and a barbie doll lower half, but this was changed near the final version. Since the same update made everyone's underwear part of their body, it's likely due to consoles than specifically anti-loli. Anyone know if there's a mod to restore these bodies? I haven't played in a year and I'm hoping for a new land mod to release in a playable state before giving another go with my new GPU. Fallout 3, New Vegas, Skyrim and Fallout 4 all let you play as a loli with mods (3 also makes you play as a loli during a brief tutorial section). Unfortunately most clothing/armor doesn't really fit your character (at best she'll grow boobs) and only Fallout 4 has a mostly complete set of alternate models for clothing (I think there was also a mod for Skyrim to dynamically resize things but I have no idea what it was). Otherwise it works pretty well and is pretty fun. Only reason to play Fallout 4. The demo for the new Alone in the Dark is a short prologue starring a little girl in a dress. Has anyone ripped the model/used cheat engine freecam/etc. to see if she's properly modeled or if the devs took the cowardly way out?

God Games

>tfw the only decent modern God Game is worldbox. This thread is to talk about the almost dead genre of God Games a simulation subgenre where you play as the almighty deity and watch shit unfold or at the very least manipulate a somewhat complex simulation to get a specific outcome. Examples include Sim Earth, Worldbox, Black and White games and some other. >Do City Builders count? Depends. I personally don't count them in the genre as I believe that God games are about manipulating a sandbox environment and watching shit unfold rather than about solving logistical challenges and city planning, but some people consider it a part of the genre. >What are the good games? EarthSim, Black and White, Wordlbox and that's about all of the ones that I could find. Galimulator is also a thing if you want to do nothing more than just watch things unfold rather than have more control over the simulation. Species is incredibly janky and also in the "watch shit unfold" category but it's a cool evolution simulator. You can change the way that things evolve by introducing different environmental challenges or fucking with their genetics to see what kind of abominations you will come across. Some people consider Spore a part of this category, I would not agree with them but if you can get over the pain of not getting the version promised to you it can still somewhat scratch the itch.

Animated PNG thread - Rebuilt Geocities Edition

Suggested from >>1031266 in the sexy sprite thread The idea is very simple: You take your GIFs & convert them to APNG. Why would you want to do this? Let me explain >APNG is usually smaller in file size vs. GIF while still maintaining the same quality >thus, APNG images in posts endlessly loop without having to click on them due to the smaller filesizes. <GIF animations not so much even with the fewer frames of animation Based on my testings, here is what I have determined to get working APNG animations on the posts in this site >must not exceed above 25.00 KB in file size >must not exceed above above 220px x 220px in image size Use this website to convert your GIFs to APNGs: https://ezgif.com/gif-to-apng Then repost them if they meet the above criteria.

Did Call of Duty kill arena shooters?

I've been thinking about this for a while, mainly after playing a few rounds in the Arcade mode of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 that came with my Game Pass subscription. Do you guys think Call of Duty killed the modern arena shooter? I'm asking since we don't really have an active platform in these types of games outside small communities that gather together on a Friday night. I'm mainly concerned since I remember looking for a classic FPS to play with a group of 16 people, and I just couldn't find one. The numbers are too little for there to be a sustained player base. This comes after the failure of Halo Infinite which was really killed by Microsoft's desperate desire for a live service game for the Xbox platform. This isn't to say I don't enjoy Call of Duty, as it IS a guilty pleasure of mine to fuck around and shoot people without thinking about it. Although my main concern is that games like Quake don't really exist anymore since there aren't any people willing to join a match at 3AM on a Tuesday, which is sad, but it appears to be the reality of the situation that only games like Call of Duty have the numbers to support a PVP Team Deathmatch like mode. I know Ubisoft tried putting out a F2P version of Call of Duty called XDefiant, although it failed due to Ubisoft refusing to put the game on Steam because they're kinda retarded. What do you think about these popcorn shooters like Call of Duty, Halo, XDefiant, Quake, etc?. Do you think they deserve the fate of being lost to time, or is it just an issue of promotion.

But here goes: Over the past few years, a certain game Genshit Impact blew up and changed the mobile market completely. A key factor to its success was not only that it was chinkshit BOTW but it was playable outside of muh wife's boyfriend's Switch for "free." Suddenly, the field went from disposable side games played by turd worlders to being taken seriously overnight. And with it came the copycats, and with that came the need to grow and grab more dollars free of Grapple and Gulag's clutches. Thus the PC clients and controller support rolled out. The advent of Unity and Unreal to Eastern devs, combined with chinks and gooks growing up with always online games and expanding in soft power, while the Nipponese gravitate increasingly towards portability, has resulted in a glut of titles that are available on both PC and phones (sometimes web). As more and more of them come out, some of them, in the spirit of Ross Freeman, convert themselves into packaged games you can purchase on retail. Some mobile devs capitalize off their success on phones to develop real hardcore games. Meanwhile, hardcore games have slowly adopted the same live service trappings of mobile titles, and handheld game ports are making more money than ever. <battle passes <microtransaction shops, lootboxes, and gachas <deckbuilding <wikis and metas <"gameplay loops" <limited time collabs and crossovers All the talk about normalfag gamers suddenly discovering indie games is BS as Palworld and Helldivers 2 were both live service games that happened to have the aesthetic of hardcore games. This development is what flash games and handheld titles were leading up to. My thesis is that games will eventually be designed for both mobile and PC from the ground up, due to the rise of the East in influence, and the future of gaming relies on the direction this development takes, for the better or worse. Ideally all games will start out free, replacing traditional demos, but there will be an option to buy the game outright or play it with microtransactions. Alternatively, hardcore games will be ported to ARM as we are starting to see over the years, with Crapple and Microshit making a huge push with ISA translation. Pros >devs essentially have more creative freedom >low budget and barrier of entry, means a return to the PS2 era of development >shift to developing for multiple resolutions which helps with preservation as upscaling and temporal aliasing become more popular; something I've seen that is interesting is that some mobile games are designed at a 1:1 ratio so they can adapt to any screen >smaller gaymen devices are kewl >grawfix will stop being wanked over and focus will be on battery life and thermals instead >hot anime babes will eventually cleanse and purify the Jewish rot of the West Cons <the live service approach is akin to commercial serial storytelling and most of it fucking sucks, especially with the hero collectors <mobile gamers are fucking stupid and the mobile market is predatory; there's increasing tribalism over fucking gachas and online shooters like they're football teams <mobile games tend to have high marketing budgets to try to expand player bases which is not much better than the current triple gAAAy norm <many mobile games are just rehashes of other concepts, not that that changes much either <mobile games developed improperly cause heat issues with devices that only have passive cooling <treadmill work, dailies and external reward campaigns <devs are also stupid as shit, Alchemy Stars is a 2D gacha that is as big as some AAA games in file size, I started this thread because of how some successful mobile games run like shit and are unoptimized on phones <mobile gamers understand nothing about technicals <trannylators Discuss the inane technical, economic and sociopolitical ramifications, like Fortnite and Roblox just being lesser copies of GMod.

Game of the Month #14 (Fanservice Frenzy Edition): Pseudoregalia (PC)

>What is this? This is exactly how it sounds: A game is chosen each month (which will be relatively or totally obscure on purpose) with hopes of bringing new avenues of playing potential to anons with narrow video game perspectives. The goal isn't necessarily to pick bad games, but obscure ones nobody, or as few people as possible, have played. You can play the game and then use that fact as bragging rights to others! You can use it to broaden your backlog horizons! or you can forget about it. It's up to you. THIS MONTH: Pseudoregalia (PC) >Where do I get this? https://multiup.org/561d1ade2b2085ad61059aae41a0fd3a GUIDELINES FOR FUTURE GotMs: Poll for December 2024: December's Long Haul! https://poal.me/7yo83j This month we'll celebrate those titles that take absurdly long to beat, let alone 100%, or that take place over the span of an extremely long time, be it years, decades or even eras. Pick any game, as long as it meets the criteria, it can make it to next month's thread! If you do not like any of the games in the poll, you can either add a new entry manually, or reply to the OP with a different suggestion. Shuhei Yoshida to leave Sony Interactive Entertainment on January 15, 2025

“I’m leaving Sony Interactive Entertainment on January 15, 2025…,” Yoshida said in an Official PlayStation Podcast interview. “It’s like announcing the launch date of a new game, [something] I haven’t done for a long time [laughs].” He continued, “I’ve been with PlayStation from the beginning, and this is my 31st year with PlayStation. And when I hit 30 years, I was thinking, hmm, it may be about time for me to move on. You know, the company’s been doing great. I love [PlayStation 5], I love the games that are coming out on this platform. And we have new generations of management who I respect and admire. And I’m so excited for the future of PlayStation. So you know, PlayStation is in really good hands. I thought, okay, this is my time.” Yoshida joined Sony Interactive Entertainment, then Sony Computer Entertainment, when it was still just a department under PlayStation creator Ken Kutaragi. “Ken’s team was doing the development, and there was another team under Sony Music Entertainment Japan making games for Super Nintendo, and that was another small team preparing to make games for PlayStation,” Yoshida said. “So the two teams merged, Ken’s team under Sony and Sato-san’s team under Sony Music Entertainment Japan, to create Sony Computer Entertainment in November 1993. When the company was established as a joint venture, we held a party and everybody was in one room at the hotel [laughs]. I remember we had about 80 people total. We were very small.” Yoshida’s job was to talk to publishers and developers in Japan, making phone calls and visits in hopes that they would make games for PlayStation. Yoshida eventually became president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, today known as PlayStation Studios, before stepping down to lead Sony Interactive Entertainment’s indie games initiative. “When I was managing [PlayStation Studios] working with big studios, making AAA games was great,” Yoshida said. “However, when I went to events like E3 or Gamescom, I always went to the indie game area. And I found games that I liked, and oftentimes the developer was there showcasing it. So I’d take a photo with the developer, trying to help promote these games.” As for what the future holds, Yoshida said while he has no plans yet, he would like to stay in the industry, helping independent game developers. “I have a couple of events to visit. The Game Awards are in December. I have commitments to the Taipei Game Show in January and DICE Summit in February, because I’m on the board… so that I’ll continue to do. But other than that, I have no plan. I enjoy my free time… I would like to continue to help indie developers or indie publishers if they need me. So I’ll probably continue to help these creative, talented indie teams in the future.” Personally I think this is just more signs that PlayStation wants to shed itself of its Japanese roots and continue bleeding money. We've already seen how the brand keeps wanting to push AAA cinematic shit with how they shutdown Japan Studio and are just tripping down on bad decisions. Although this could also be a sign of a complete shift in terms of how PlayStation is handled as Sony President, COO and CFO Hiroki Totoki says that PlayStation are currently reforming their gaming business, although how they reform said business could go one of two ways either they could have more of a free market approach or they can once again double down. Still this is pretty big news and I hope Sony moves the PlayStation HQ out of California. and gains a more "free market" approach where ecchi developers can make games for the PlayStation platform again rather than relying on AAAA cinematic shit to dominate the industry. The brand has been dead to me for a while, so I'm unsure what to expect at this point. https://blog.playstation.com/2024/11/26/all-good-things-a-look-back-at-shuhei-yoshidas-31-years-with-playstation/ https://archive.ph/wip/qOuVJ

Please, help me to find this mysterious fps.

>Pic not related but its something from a cop I don't remember the name of the game but I remember this >Fps >Zombies (looks normal not like mutants i think maybe some mutants) >Source engine? (Or mod of half life source?) >Looks like left 4 dead (or mod of l4d?) >Look like Estranged (in history topic) >2009-2012 fps vibe maybe? >You're a police guy (or soldier?), lost, in a route and walk to a "empty" town >game completely at night with shadows (entire game occurs at night except the end at morning i think) >there's a level in a hospital with a lot of zombies >there's a electric granade or something like that >gravity gun with color blue or something? >Bill from left 4 dead as npc? (or a para-military npc that look like bill) I don't remember more about the game. I'm sure it was an official game or a mod but it was very long. >Also You were a cop (off duty) traveling a route and your car broke down or you had an accident, then you would walk to a nearby town (in the middle of nowhere in the countryside) and find it empty and then face a wave of zombies. There was a whole level in a hospital and the whole game took place in the dark except for the ending which was in the morning. There was an npc friend that look like para-military or something that gave you a gravity gun and I think some electric grenades or something. I don't remember more, but I remember it as a long game and for some reason I associate it with left 4 dead and half life blue shift or one of the other stories.

Concord - flop of the decade?

If you're unaware, the Sony-backed GaaS Concord just launched to an astounding 660 peak players. Not 6600, but six hundred and sixty-six. Currently sitting at 407. This is a flop on a level that is genuinely astounding. Battleborn launched to 12000~ players, LawBreakers launched to 7579. Gollum launched to 768. This game was in development for eight years, is getting an episode on the upcoming Secret Level show, and had a budget estimated at well over $100,000,000. All of that to hit a peak player count rivalling Far Cry Primal on a random Monday. The game didn't even enter Steam's top 500 and is about to drop out of the top 1000. It's a failure the likes of which I can only compare to The Culling 2. I would not be surprised if this game ended Sony's live service ambitions here and now, this is nearly unprecedented in the AAA space.

Star Wars Outlaws turns out to be brutal flop - only one million copies sold

This seemed large enough to be posted outside of minor news. https://archive.ph/O10dQ The sales targets are not known, but Ubisoft has publicly admitted they're lower than than expected. It's currently believed this might be the reason AC: Shadows was delayed, not the controversies surrounding it.

Major release Unknown 9: Awakening goes by practically unheard of, peaking at 224 players and mostly negative reviews

Less players than Concord, by the way. Bandi Namco were trying to build an entire multimedia IP out of this, they bought the studio outright in 2020. AMD were giving codes away with hardware purchases. They really thought they had something here. How does stuff like this keep happening? https://archive.is/jAkAY I only vaguely remember this for having been at one of those Xbox showcases. It's gotten pretty middling reviews from the press too, largely getting 5s.

Games where the villain technically won in the end.

/v/ what are some games where the main villain technically won? My example is Metal Gear Rising, Armstrong technically won in the end as he got Raiden to accept his ideology in the end.

I want to talk about dragon age. >Beat DA:O a few months ago as a dual wielding warrior. >Think to myself to play as a mage. >Never finish mage playthrough. >Thanks to technical problems I never will and also my warrior is forever gone. >After fixing my technical problems I finally make a new character. >Dalish elf rogue. >Plan to be a total bitch with a bow. >Playing on hard and noticing that Bow kinda sucks. >Don't want to pivot to another dual-wielding bastard. >Try and look up online and the best bow in the game requires me to make a guy kill himself. >Other alternatives either suck dick or they are shit you get from the DLC for free (already destroyed them). >Kinda just want to make a new character but I still want to make archer work. What do I do /v/? Is there something I need to do to make bow rogue good? Also discuss Origins in general and why Sten is the best companion.

2009 legacy league of legends

Take down if you feel fit. But I'm not the most savvy with trying to get old games to work and figured I'd make a post here where riot cucks wont touch. So I noticed you can get a copy of the 2009 cd League of Legends on internet archive. I wanted to see about hosting some old league with friend's but every ounce of research I do to see if there's anyway to do that with the files. But I just get stuff about riot taking down fan project attempts to revive old league. I just want to have a silly time with the superior version of league with friend's so any software savvy peep's able to tell me how I might be able to achieve my goal? On another note favorite splash-art or design from classic league?

MONSTER HUNTER THREAD: (Breath of the) Wilds Edition.

So the beta for MonHun Wilds is out and I've played it. It's OK. I'm not a hardcore Monster Hunter fan, I only played World and Rise up to the end of the story and didn't go for any post-game content, but this is way more casual-friendly than the previous entries. The camera now locks on to the monster instead of just centering on them for a split second. I could spam attacks with dual blades and interrupt at a moment's notice with the dodge roll, so I didn't have to pace my button presses. The wound feature is pretty cool. Basically you just attack one body part over and over until it glows red, then enter focus mode with L2 and press R1, and you do a super move on it. Focus mode lets you basically strafe and finely aim your attacks like it's a third-person shooter. The new support creature, the seikret, is cool. It automatically follows the monster's scent once you're on it so tracking the monster is now piss-easy. I only did the first hunt against the giant toad, I turned it off after that. There is another hunt you can do afterwards but I wanted to get back to the Romancing Saga 2 remake. Overall, I think I would play it. I expect hardcore MonHun fans will be pissed at how baby-mode it is now though. I'm nowhere near a seasoned veteran and I played it just like Dark Souls and that worked fine for me. YMMV.

The goal isn't necessarily to pick bad games, but obscure ones nobody, or as few people as possible, have played. You can play the game and then use that fact as bragging rights to others! You can use it to broaden your backlog horizons! or you can forget about it. It's up to you. THIS MONTH: Tales of Game's Studios Presents Chef Boyardee's Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden, Chapter 1 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa >Where do I get this? https://www.talesofgames.com/related_game/barkley-shut-up-jam-gaiden/ https://archive.org/details/Barkley_Shut_Up_and_Jam_Gaiden GUIDELINES FOR FUTURE GotMs: Poll for November 2024: November Fanservice Frenzy! https://poal.me/gu2u9q If you do not like any of the games in the poll, you can either add a new entry manually, or reply to the OP with a different suggestion. Video Game Waifu Thread: Haydee Edition

/v/, who is your video game waifu? Mine is definitely Haydee. I love her curvy body and thick round ass. I believe she would make a submissive loyal house wife. I know some may call me a nigger lover but when served properly, chocolate is delicious dish.

Metal Gear Solid

I've been thinking about Vol 2 of the Master collection. There is no doubt Peace Walker is going to be apart of it, and MGS4 has to be the main draw of the package, otherwise they don't really have much to sell that people don't already have access to on modern platforms. But that's making me think Peace Walker is built entirely around Co-op so they will be supporting that, and that's making me think if they are working on PW's MP stuff then there is a chance they're also going to relaunch MGS4's Multiplayer, I'm not gonna hold my breath of course they didn't bother with MGS3's MP, still seems like there is a slim chance of it, but it's interesting to think about.

VR Games

VR has been around for around ten years at this point, and personally while I think overall there's not a single game that I'd suggest is a "system seller" for any headset, I'm a bit curious to see if there's anything that has captured anyone's interest for more than a couple hours. I'll list a few of mine in the thread.

Vidya Enhacements: Mods, Romhacks, Remasters, Texture Packs, Undubs, ReShade, etc

Do you like to garnish your vidya experiences? Whenever I play a videogame, I like to see if there are enhanced fan made versions of them, and if there are I will play those instead of anything official, not that official is bad ofc but fans tend to make the better creative decisions. The most common mods are used in BOTW and minecrank, but it should be our duty to share the more obscure or newer mods to give anons a nice feeling of catharsis. That's what I'm doing. Check these two mods out, feel free to share your favorites too!
