Diary of a Wimpy Kid Anonymous 01/22/2025 (Wed) 19:25:31 No. 43272 [Reply]
I somehow missed they made some Diary of a Wimpy Kid animated movies. I always thought they'd work better animated than in live action. Has anyone here watched them?

Jeff the Land Shark Anonymous 01/11/2025 (Sat) 19:13:40 No. 43111 [Reply]
Marvel has been pushing Jeff as the cute new mascot lately, so let's see what Jeff is like. The paneling in these comics might be a bit weird because it is an edited version of a webtoon Marvel released in regular comic form.

>>43242 The only future Marvel has is small inconsequential stories on cute characters. They're not willing to be cool, consistent, respectful, or non political so all we're left with it just cute out of mainline stuff like this.
>>43244 The comic is vapid, but I can't think of a better thing Marvel has put out in recent years. The other characters are completely hamfisted in though and it makes the whole thing feel like an ad. I liked the venom part though, especially the orca visual gag.
>>43247 Yeah it would work better without the modern characters no one likes. Go the classic Marvel Adventures route with the characters people actually know & readers actually want to see.

General Toku/Kaiju thread Anonymous 05/26/2020 (Tue) 20:16:26 No. 1456 [Reply] [Last]
Is the MCU considered a Tokusatsu? Other shows/toons and comics that could be considered Toku? What happened to the Power Rangers BOOM! comic? I was posting the PR comic general a couple years back but since Kyle Higgins got replaced as a writer around the Shattered Grid event which seemed hurried as hell I lost interest and the previews just smelled like shark jumping, also the Go Go series, which started pretty weak but it git gud later only to be dragged into the Shattered Grid mess.

Avatar Studios Anonymous 01/11/2025 (Sat) 15:06:41 No. 43087 [Reply]
https://archive.fo/27Dqy >Today, a Paramount merchandising video from September 2024 has been discovered online that features the possible slate of projects currently in development from Avatar Studios (it’s since been removed on Vimeo). It first mentions that the Netflix live-action series has been greenlit for seasons 2 and 3. Avatar Studios is a production company alongside Nickelodeon though not directly involved (via IMDB). Next, it shows Aang: The Last Airbender, the previously announced theatrical movie with the first revealed title card. Then, it confirms the long rumored Earth Avatar TV series will be released second. Followed by a second theatrical film, a brand-new Airbending TV series, and a final theatrical film. It will also end with a Firbending project under “new content.” The video also ends with the title Avatar Legends, which could be what the universe will be called to differentiate it from James Cameron’s Avatar universe. From the AAA game announcement in Oct, “This new Avatar Legends title reflects the companies’ shared desire to continue their long-term strategic partnership to bring Paramount IP to life.” So, let us break down what each project is or could be. >The first project to be released will be the Avatar Aang theatrical movie on January 30th, 2026, featuring a brand new cast of voice actors taking up the iconic roles. The cast includes Eric Nam (Transplant, Saturday Night Live Korea) as Aang; Jessica Matten (Dark Winds) as Katara; Román Zaragoza (Ghosts) as Sokka; and Dionne Quan (The Fairly OddParents, All Grown Up) as Toph. It will also introduce Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) as a brand-new villain. We at Knight Edge Media found a copyright submission on the project that lists it under the working title Lost Realm and mentions actor Steven Yeun (Avatar Wan in Korra) is in the movie. We also heard years ago that Dante Basco is expected to return from the original cast as Firelord Zuko, but surprisingly, he has yet to be announced. Paramount has brought tidbits on the Aang movie to CinemaCon in Las Vegas the past two years. It’s possible we could hear more about it at the event in April. >The second project to be released will be the Earth Avatar TV series following the events of The Legend of Korra on Paramount+. This will be the next series in the cycle of shows and take place in a post-apocalyptic world. Over the last month, we at Knight Edge Media revealed several exclusive tidbits about this yet-to-be-announced animated series. It will follow two South Asian twin girls, Avatar Pavi and (possibly?) Avatar Nisha, as they go on an adventure to discover what happened to Avatar Korra. Why are they the first set of Avatar twins in history? Does one have Raava and the other Vaatu? Why has their world become a wasteland full of terrifying energy storms? Why are there seven havens cities and not the four nations? The series is confirmed to run for 26 episodes initially and is currently titled Avatar: Seven Havens, though that final title can also change. It was made under the working title Aurora. No official voice casting has been announced for the series yet. >The third and fifth projects are two more theatrically released feature films. At one time, the three films were going to take place in different eras and feature different Avatars. This slate has an image of Avatar Aang, which may indicate the three films are a true trilogy following a 3-movie arc with adult Aang. It’s also very possible the images are just marketing placeholders to conceal that the two subsequent films are as self-contained stories with different Avatars. It’s unknown at this point if anything changed, though it would be fascinating if the rumored Avatar Korra movie were a prequel movie to the Avatar Pavi TV Series. Explaining precisely what cataclysmic event with Korra reshaped the world from four nations into seven havens/regions. Avatar News mentioned in 2022 that an “Earth Avatar movie” was also in development. It’s possible the Earth Avatar and Korra movies may be one and the same. Fans have also long wanted an Avatar Kyoshi movie adapted from one of the novels set in the past before Aang. >The new and surprising bit of information is a previously unknown and untitled Airbending TV series set to release between the two final feature films. It would be assumed that the following show (or Avatar) would be the Firebending Avatar set in the distant future. Since that would follow the Avatar cycle and the release of the shows, but they seem to skip them completely. Many fans thought the Earth Avatar series would be a cyberpunk-type series (like Mike and Bryan’s original concept for Avatar: The Last Airbender), but it turned into a post-apocalyptic series. Maybe the Airbender series could feature a new future Avatar or feature Avatar Aang or Avatar Yangchen, though this is all speculation. Hopefully, it’s new content and not a retread of Aang again. >Lastly, the slate reveals an untitled Firebending project is in development but listed as “new content,” not a series. This could be anything from digital shorts to another novel. Though it is most likely the AAA video game Avatar: Ice Wars based on the released concept art of a new unknown Fire Avatar set 7,000 years in the past. However, this is all speculation and way off in their plan. With so many animated projects in development simultaneously, it makes sense why it has taken years to release anything. However, a positive thought is that there will be less down time between projects being released, even if it’s a longer wait up front.
>>43087 >air bender series. Oh no...
How long are they going to pretend anyone gives a shit about Avatar outside of the original show? Korra was shit, the live action was shit, the games are shit, the books are shit, the comics are shit. Just give it a rest already.

So I finished off the Turok reboot that Dynamite did a decade ago. The first story arc was cliche as fuck with the whole "Noble savage" narrative, the second story was far better and actually showed the series had some potential, but then the third story arc just dropped straight into "What bullshit am I reading?" territory. To explain something first, Turok is a comic book series that started back in the mid-1950's. The premise for the series is that, in pre-Columbian America, a Mandan Indian named "Turok", along with an apprentice named "Andar", stumble upon an extensive cave network that leads them to a world underground brimming with dinosaurs, cavemen, and other "impossible" discoveries. It's an adventure series that details their exploration of the underground world and eventually their attempts to get back home. All the Turok media since then has played on some variation of this, such as later comics having the "dino world" be a "dimension out of time" or even another planet as was the case with the 2008 vidya reboot. However, in this story, the dinos...just exist without rhyme of reason and brought across the oceans to America by everyone else. The opening for the story is that Turok is an outcast living within the vicinity of another tribe who killed his parents some sixteen years prior because they believed them to be "Witch-doctors" or something along those lines. While Turok is being chased by Andar and his gang who've been bullying him since forever, the tribe is attacked by dinosaurs unleashed by 13th century English crusaders who crossed the Atlantic for the purposes of finding gold. Turok and Andar manage to escape capture, eventually free the rest of their tribe, and retreat into the hills while holding the English general's daughter captive. In response, the English general unleashes a T-Rex for the purposes of hunting down the Indians, not caring about the fate of his daughter due to the fact that she's already been "tainted" for being captured. Turok eventually manages to redivert the T-Rex back to the Crusaders, resulting in them retreating into the hills and hiding in the caves with the Indians. The general attempts to feed the hungry T-Rex by offering up a young boy, but "Here Turok comes to save the day" by knocking the boy out of the generals hands, skewering the general with a sword, and tossing him into the mouth of the T-Rex. After everything is said and done, Turok leaves to return to the land of his family hoping to find peace. Like I said, the first story arc is cliche as fuck about the "evil explorers looking for gold", but it also does it's fair share of making Andar and his tribe out to be realy dicks to Turok for zero reason. Even after he saves their lives. The art is decent, and the action is good. Though, I wish to God that these companies would begin hiring artists who actually draw female-looking characters instead of women who look like buffed-chest men with nigger lips. The second story arc begins with Turok wondering the world and running into a girl named Altani. She's the daughter of Genghis Khan, and he eventually learns that the Khan is at war with his (Turok's) people. Naturally, the desire to seek peace is proposed, until it's revealed that the Chief of Turok's people is a murderous bastard who killed Turok's extended family to gain unopposed power and is holding the village's populace hostage if Turok doesn't help him. As for the Khan's motivation, it's of course conquering land, but he has the extra motivation the village chief slaughtering the Khan's son the year prior. I'm not exactly going to spoil this because it's actually the best story arc of the 12 issues, but you'll catch my drift if I saw that the story is sex-swapped Pocahontas with dinos and the Mongols replacing the English. The art for this arc is vastly improved, but this because the artists is Japanese (Despite being Canadian born). After that point, you can drop the series as the last arc is trash and shouldn't exist. To give you an idea, Turok returns to the stranded English now co-existing with the Andar's tribe, but English want to return home. So, they cross the ocean with Turok and Andar, and Turok becomes Robin Hood. This isn't a joke, and I'm not making that shit up. He literally becomes Robin Hood, with King John, and the Men In Tights. Everything. Even the dino's take a back seat to the point that they could be yanked out of the story and you wouldn't notice. In fact, up to the point, the characters carefully referred to the dinos as "dragons" or "birds", but they drop all pretense halfway through the third arc and just start calling them "dinosaurs". The entire comic is based in 1210 A.D. by the way. Ironically, this also has the best art, too, so hats off to Felipe Cunha and Ruairi Coleman. Overall, I liked it(?), but even that comes with some hesitation. The first arc just starts everything off on the wrong foot, and third arc is just trash and false advertising. I very much liked the second arc, so I'd say only read the first eight issues.
I got these three JLI trades from a used book, so I've been reading them. I've already finished Born Again and Around the World and enjoyed them a lot. I'm now about halfway through Corporate Maneuvers and still enjoying it. I wish DC had kept up with these trades since the only other way to get JLI is omnis, and I don't care for them. I'll probably just read the rest online once I finish Corporate Maneuvers.
Been reading Little Spirou RIP Tome

Who wants to read an autists webcomic? A John Stewart fanboy got so butthurt at DC that he made his own Green Lantern knock-off. How bad could it be? I made a thread for it back on 8ch where I sarcastically called it a masterpiece and the creator thought I was serious. He even made an image with the quote on it.

I finally found it after 22 fucking years, this pilot aired on CN like 30 times and it stayed in the back of my mind as I remembered it from time to time. Animation looks better than I remember, but the narrative and aesthetics are really off. The gal that directed this also made the cartoon sections of Lizzie McGuire later on. ‘Invincible Fight Girl’ Creator Explains How This Original Series Survived Cartoon Network’s Internal Drama https://archive.fo/TvhT9 >If you’ve ever wondered why Western animation hasn’t done an action-anime series set in a fictional world of obsessed wrestling fans, then wonder no more because writer/director/creator Juston Gordon-Montgomery has birthed that idea into existence with his original Adult Swim series, Invincible Fight Girl (debuting Saturday, November 2, at 12:00am ET/PT, and the following day available on Max streaming). >It’s Gordon-Montgomery’s first animated series creation, after years of working in the industry in other capacities. Some of those other roles include directing episodes of DC Super Hero Girls, writing on My Dad the Bounty Hunter,, and storyboarding on films like The Smurfs: The Lost Village, Ferdinand, and Smallfoot. >Invincible Fight Girl is his long-gestating passion project centered on Andy (voiced by Sydney Mikayla), a life-long wrestling obsessive residing in the fictional land of Wrestling World. Despite her aspirations to get inside the ring (and show off her self taught moves), Andy has respected her parent’s wishes and played it safe by pursuing a boring accounting degree. But when she’s assigned to do the taxes of a trio of famous wrestlers, Andy’s world changes in ways that she, nor the audience, could ever imagine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3FEwip-Rh8&t=283s Another Cartoon Network original series being dumped into the Adult Swim/Toonami lineup because executives have no idea what to do with the content they make.
